Comfortably trouncing the two All Ireland Football semi finals you’d suspect.

Amazing what being an international sport will do for you.

Galway’s victory over Waterford in yesterday’s All Ireland Senior Hurling final is most-watched show on Irish television so far this year as over one million viewers tune in to live match on RTÉ2
Monday 4th September, 2.42pm

Strongest streaming figures ever for Senior Hurling final with 60,987 live streams on RTÉ Player

Galway’s nail-biting win over a spirited Waterford side in yesterday’s All Ireland Senior Hurling final drew an average audience of 901,500 to RTÉ2’s live coverage of the game making it the number one programme for the year so far. 73% of all those watching TV at the time were tuned-in to The Sunday Game Live on RTÉ2.

The TV audience peaked at over 1.1 million people at the very end of the game (17:03) as the Tribesmen hung on to claim a famous victory and bring the Liam McCarthy cup back to Galway for the first time since 1988.

This year’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final has been the single biggest live stream event for RTÉ Player so far this year and saw the strongest volume of live streams for any All-Ireland Hurling Final on record for RTÉ Player with 60,987 live streams in total. This shows an increase of 40% on 2016 All-Ireland Hurling Final streams and the strongest volume of live streams for any Sunday Game Live so far this year.

Meanwhile RTÉ2’s live coverage of Saturday’s 1-1 draw between the Republic of Ireland and Georgia in Tbilisi drew an average audience of 486,000 peaking at 639,000 at the end of the game (18:51). 47% of those watching TV at the time were watching the game on RTÉ2.

@Tim_Riggins will be along shortly to show you that you are misinterpreting these figures and that more people actually watched the women’s rugby 7th place final.

I suppose what the figures prove is that people will watch the game again if that crowd of dullards from Kilkenny are not involved.

Cat got your tongue @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy, @gilgamboa @Matty_Hislop @Tim_Riggins ??

Oooofffftttt

I’m amazed there were people still tuned in to that dross by the end. I guess people were all switching over to see Dunphy go off on a rant.

That’s exactly what happened in the pub I was in.
They turned up the TV as soon as the game was finished so they could hear Dunphy.

The silence from these boys is deafening – Hurling attendances up all year and now the final is setting records – watched by 1/5 of the country - Wow - Just wow - what a year for hurling.

Fantastic numbers i have no beef with the gaa and love to see them getting a good viewing figure the twice a year it does. Bravo

ill wait until the official numbers come out but 900k is well below a big football or rugby game

Any word on the sky viewing figures. They were probably down 1 with @Tassotti on the run.

Peaked at 1.1m, bud — shove that up your shitter.

which is a lot less than a big football or rugby game but Ill wait until the official figures come out before massaging them and making the appropriate analysis

A big rugby game ?:open_mouth: What?

World Cup quarter final

:grinning:

Yeah calling rugby big :joy:

The fact that potato hockey - a game only played by a few counties around Tipp according to you, is even in the conversation must have you rattled — But then again, you watched the minor and senior finals and even the Sunday Game last night…thanks for the stats, brah.

An All Ireland hurling final gets big viewing figures. Its called the “Calor Housewife of the Year affect”

Not bigger than proper sports though
