Saw the first series. Started off ok but descended in complete farce. They totally over egged it. I thought it would be a one off because it ended in such nonsense it’s like they got fed up of making it during the shoot.
I thought the first season was brilliant. Tried to start season 2 a couple of times but gave up. Maybe left too long a gap before going back to it but no interest now.
I think I have said it to you before but season two is a pleb filter, it concludes fairly ok. S3/4 are superb, no real parallel. Esmail (sp) wanted 4 seasons and that’s all he made.
The man is married to Emmy Rossum, he knows what he is doing
Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar!
And you’ll live as you’ve never lived before
I find that period of history utterly fascinating. I’d love to quit my job and go do a PHD on the interwar years. The roaring 20s followed by the Great Depression in the US, not to mention prohibition. The failure of Versailles in Europe.
Although to do it justice you’d need to go back to the French Revolution and start from there.
The Devil’s Hour on Prime Video is a slow-burning 6-part series that requires close attention, but is worth staying with to the end. It has a Cracker type feel to it.
Peter Capaldi and Jessica Raine are both excellent in it.
