TV shows that slipped under the radar

A thread to point people in the direction of really good tv shows that weren’t mainstream popular but deserved to be. Preferably with links to at least one episode.

Armando Iannucci (up there with Chris Morris as the standout comedy creators in Britain) created and narrated review of the near future as reviewed from 2031. First class.

Rob Brydon and Julia Davis mockumentary on 6 different couples with various odd social and relationship issues. Fantastic stuff.

Chris Morris and Charlie Brooker - a bit more popular than the other two I think in getting a cult following but still not widely seen. A bit strange and takes a little getting used to but it’s really good.

I quite like The Americans. Never much talk about it at the water cooler in the office but I find it reasonable enough, even if it’ll never be The Wire.

Yeah, one of the most consistent shows around these days. The show Homeland could have been - much better characters, much better plot but nowhere near the hype.

Cracking '80s soundtrack too. I think it’s absolutely superb.

Plus Felicity has a lovely bottom.

A fantastic show though, the tooth pulling scene early in S03 will go with me to th grave.

That episode was on RTÉ last night, just happened upon it right before that scene so I watched it again. It really is a cracking scene, quite hard to watch though.

That scene was superbly acted, actually there’s not a weak point in it from that respect, even the child actors (one of which was vital last season) are top notch. Obviously they have wonderful material to work with within the Cold War set up but the tension is just fantastic.

Plus they managed to commission a show on US television that has communist anti-Americans as the main heroes. No jingoism.

I mentioned it elsewhere but Deutschland 83 is worth a look for fans of The Americans. I don’t think it’s quite as good - but might be better when it gets a bigger budget. It’s a bit more dramatic and obvious than The Americans but it’s close enough and gets you hooked early.

Mentioned it a few times before but Hell on Wheels was a quality show.

Sean Lock’s ‘15 Storeys High’ was superb

The Seven O’Clock show on TV3.

It’s a masterpiece.
