If Patrick Horgan had half Springsteen’s energy and attitude Cork would have won this years All-Ireland and he half his age. As Buff would say “Iconic”….

Meat Loaf doc on the tour of Ireland a decent watch, one of the brother in laws best pals featuring prominently.

A harmless watch but the bit about the Golden Vale in Dundrum, complete with a shout out to Annacarty, was classic. In a similar vein Duffy Pub is a nice watch, it’s surely on the player.

Attempting the unenviable task of protecting Meat Loaf from debris and holding the crowd back was my pal Marty. He was standing in the pit directly on front of the stage, swatting beer cans when suddenly, everything in the community centre went into slow motion.

Marty recalls: “The lights caught something shiny and a second or two later I saw it. I thought ‘oh no… this is it… show’s over’…”

Flying through the air was… a wheelchair.

Jaysis i thought that Meat Loaf doc was brilliant television. Tommy Swarbrigg the promoter and all of Meatloaf band were excellent talking heads. There was something quite sad about seeing the likes of Hayden’s in Ballinasloe and The Golden Vale in Dundrum in their current state of disrepair. Watching their late late show performance they were a serious band at the time. Lovely to see Meat not entertaining any of Gay Byrne’s patronising aul guff too.

I watched it with Mrs Barnes who wasn’t allowed attend the Castlebar gig and as a result is still quietly seething at her aul.lad 35 years later. She said no one in Mayo spoke about anything else for 3 months beforehand.

I remember my older brothers going to see him in Bundoran. As you say thats all anyone was talking about for months beforehand. We we heading to the factory in Athleague a couple of days later in my neighbours vw golf with a trailer of lambs and had meatloaf blasting all the way up and back with a new cassette that had been purchased at the concert. The brother and neighbour were both wearing matching headbands that had been bought there too just incase anyone didnt know theyd been at the gig.Wore them into the factory too :grinning:. Out and out roaster stuff tbf.

RTE showing the Meatloaf doc for the third time this week.

Patrick Duffy’s pub one has been on a few times this week as well.

It was a very good programme and a real shame to see the venues they played all derelict now.
