Tyrone 2020

Mickey Harte crippling players.

ā€˜It was like someone stabbing you in the heartā€™ - Tyrone defender retired at 28, needs both hips replaced at 33 https://the42.ie/5034765

Hopefully Lane is pressed on his links to Galway GAA.

The Dublin crackpots are already on it

Conor McKenna on the way back home again.

Hopefully heā€™ll stay put this time.

Odd behaviour

50% wage cut for the majority of players. Iā€™d say most of the young Irish players will be considering their futures in the AFL.

@Fulvio_From_Aughnacloy!

:ronnyroar:

Cathal McShane timed his injury brilliantly too. Heā€™ll be well recovered for the championship in December.

Thatā€™s the business right there.

Terrible to see the Tyrone faithful turn on one of their all time greats.

Some GAA fans have called for Sean Cavanagh to be banned from all matches and GAA grounds for his ā€œabsolutely shamefulā€ remarks.

During a discussion with Pat Spillane around the impact of the coronavirus lockdown on GAA clubs, the three-time All-Ireland winner referred to the two separate jurisdictions on the island ā€“ acknowledging that Northern Ireland was in many ways tied to the UKā€™s social-distancing policies.

During the podcast, Cavanagh suggested the GAA might be a little too cautious with its blanket ban in sporting activities, and added: ā€œUp here in the UK itā€™s a bit bizarre because we are all probably watching Leo (Varadkar), and watching the GAAā€™s announcements and see ourselves as part of that but equally, in terms of day-to-day living we are waiting on the announcement from Boris (Johnson).ā€

Among hundreds of angry responses on Twitter, one person said they were ā€œgenuinely shocked and sickened to hear thatā€.

Another said: ā€œI donā€™t believe that former Tyrone great @SeanCavanagh14 thinks that we are in the UK. Too many Red Hand Gaelā€™s have been butchered, imprisoned and brutalised to hear such an utteranceā€.

Among the others ā€“ which are suitable for republishing ā€“ one GAA fan tweeted: ā€œGod bless us and save us. The worst. Truly pathetic.ā€

Other comments include: ā€œSean getting carried away with the VE celebrations as the Hunger Strikers turn in their graves,ā€ and, ā€œmen and women fought and died for this country and then tell the people of Ireland up here in the UK did he win 3 all-UKs instead of All-Irelandā€™s shouldnā€™t be allowed into another match or ground or onto gaa programā€.

Sinn Fein MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone Michelle Gildernew was one of those who responded.

She said: ā€œI presume by that, Sean isnā€™t playing PĆ”draig Pearse in the forthcoming film on the EasterRising then?ā€

Eh, but they are in the UK

Gregory Campbell flagged this many years back. The GAA supporters in the UK seem to be getting as hot and bothered about it now as they did back then.

A political row has erupted over comments made by Sports Minister Gregory Campbell after Tyrone won the Sam Maguire Cup.

But Mr Campbell defended his remarks, insisting Tyrone and Kerry are ā€œin different countriesā€, and therefore the match was an international occasion.

Derry SDLP councillor Mark Durkan accused Mr Campbell of disrespecting the Gaelic games tradition. He said: "Gregory Campbellā€™s comments about what was an outstanding Tyrone victory in the All-Ireland football final were pathetic.

ā€œThere will be few Gaels or other sports fans that will be impressed by a Sports Minister saying that he ā€˜supposesā€™ the team should be acknowledged on the basis that they were playing in an international game.

ā€œHe needs to realise that he has a position of responsibility now and he needs to truly respect the efforts and identities of all sporting traditions.

"He might think heā€™s clever and hope that people may think he was ā€˜having a laughā€™.

ā€œBut he let the cat out of the bag when he said that even if he had been free he wouldnā€™t have gone to Croke Park.ā€

In response, Mr Campbell said: "I passed on my best wishes to Co Tyrone GAA football team which obviously is a Northern Ireland team in their victory over Co Kerry GAA Team from the Republic of Ireland in the GAA football final.

ā€œIt is a factual position that Tyrone is a county in Northern Ireland and Kerry is a county in the Republic of Ireland . This yearā€™s GAA final amounted to an ā€˜internationalā€™ event. In any international tournament involving a team from Northern Ireland competing with a team from another country, I normally support the team representing Northern Ireland .
ā€I acknowledge that the GAA as an organisation has made improvements; however there are other areas were they have still much to do.ā€

Gregory is an out and out bigot always was and always will be
Survived several attempts on his life, so can understand it in a way.
Heā€™s rabid but keeps getting elected despite his sectarian rantings over the years, v definitely anti GAA, refused to condem an attack on a new GAA pitch used by smallies back in the day( 80s)
UDA Derry actually hammered bottles upside down into the pitch - totally unusable for the nippers

Gregory is Chairman of the Westminster Branch of the Glasgow Rangers Supporters Club .

Surely he should be following Coleraine FC ??
