U21ai hurling final Clare v Kilkenny

Wow - Regular senior hurling would have played a major part in their development from minor. How many senior teams in Clare?

20 but it is being cut to 16 from the end of next year where we will be doing away with the round robin format and having a knockout competition with a back door for those who lose in the early rounds.

The vast majority of senior sides in Clare would have a relatively young age profile with a lot of these guys and lads playing key roles for their clubs

Cathal McInerney should have had two penalties. The time the keeper came off his line and pulled him down the foul was committed inside the square as well. Regarding the Power penalty, I wasn’t sure as the time but watching it back on television it looked an outrageous call. Killian Ryan was backpeddling in front of him, not even trying to hold him up.

you must be joking me. the “manliness” on show around midfield was ridiculous, almost every tackle was accompanied by a chop.
Kirwan was brutal. Gavin will be as bad in the senior final. Only that clare were coming on to ye in waves his laissez-faire approach would have cost them the game.

I didnt have too many complaints ref the ref the pen decision aside, Golden was lucky to stay on

It was a careless pull, but luckily for him the ball was there and he caught Walsh relatively low. It was a yellow. Would have been a harsh red

Enjoying a win with good grace isn’t really how they do things in Clare, Fran

the lad had to go off, i think if the ref had sent him off the rulebook would have supported that, it would have been harse alright but it was a headless pull, stupid, and i was glad to see a yellow card brandished and then Golden went at the ref, he was a lucky boy

I dont think this is bad grace, how he could not give a penalty for that is worth discussion, especially when you saw how soft the KK penalty was, that said, i thought the ref was fair but that was a dreadful decision.

Typical Clare mullagroating.

Ref should never be allowed ref another game again. Had Clare lost that game he would been bate to death on the way home.

Fagan is seething

would you ever fuck off, power caught the ball and barged forward making no attempt to play the ball at all bang penalty immediately.
i would direct you to the goalkeepers tackle on johnny glynn in the 21 semi final for another example of an absolutely blatant penalty not called

mcinerney was swung out of by the kilkenny goal keeper who hit him a kick for good measure with no decision from kirwan the kilkenny goalkeepers foul on mcinerney was a personal foul in the square remind me what the punishment for that is.
a similar decision from the same ref in 2009 followed by a blatant push on a tipp defender moments later cost tipp two goals and an all ireland title.

if this crap had cost clare the match you would be on here citing sour grapes as the reason for us pointing to as clear an example of bias as you will see

and just to give you one more bit of ammunition for the comfort you might be trying to garner from some spurious nonsense about us being bad winners we were denied a munster title in 2008 for a keeper stepping out of the square yet the kilkenny goalkeeper takes most of his puck outs from outside the square and has not been pulled once for it.

mind set.

Wasnt Power being held around the waist? Seemed so on replays. Soft, but letter of law, its a pen. The Clare one was a disgrace and it was the grace of God the back allowed them get back in to make things right.

Anyone notice the Kilkenny forward pull across the Clare keeper in that incident near the end which was just flicked away to safety? Caught him a nice stroke.

The charge by Morey down the flank during the passage that led to the penalty shout and McGrath’s goal was something else. He’s sheer class.

Bringing Tony Kelly back into a deeper role in the second half had a massive influence on the game. I suppose they didn’t have a whole lot of choice but sending the wing back up with him didn’t really work out for Kilkenny. Tots and McInerney thrived on the space of the four man attack.

Held back by his arm I thought. It was a penalty.
Couldn’t believe that Clare weren’t given their penalty.
Didn’t see the stroke at the end you mention.

yes aylward i think, hes a fine hurler but hes a bit fiery.
no harm done and maybe understandable at half time kilkenny would have felt confident but they were hammered all over the field andbecause of aylwards nature i expect the clare backs might have given it to him verbally when they got on top which would add to the frustration
flanagan certainly can dish it out when he gets going considering how fired up he has been in a couple of challenges between the seniors and under 21s earlier in the year.

YEah, i heard a lot of criticism of kelly in the aftermath, i thought it was a very selfless performance by him

He put in some shift at the back in the second half, his first touch is unreal.

i think it would be harsh to describe it as criticism. more accurately people were disappointed in his performance based on his ability.
from the word go he was a bit out of sorts but the team ethic the management and squad have built ensured that all the players work hard no matter what their status and how they are hurling themselves in any given match.
