UEFA Euro 2016 - Republic of Ireland Qualifying Campaign

Not sure if we have a thread on this already?

Oman match on Wednesday and then we kick off against Georgia next Sunday. Shay Given apparently making a “sensational” return, doubt if David Forde’s too happy about it. Robbie Brady scored two in Europe for Hull last night and Cillian Sheridan scored as Nicosia qualified for the Champions League - is he likely to win a place on the team?
Will be interesting to see what state of mind Germany are in, they’l beat Scotland of course, but will it be 7-1 or 1-0?
@balbec - what state are the Polish in?

Poles should come second in group but will make a balls of it. Defensively poor.

The Aviva will be rocking on the 11th of October.

@larryduff and his singing section mates have the Aviva rocking for every game Julio.

There’s a ticket portal open on the UEFA site at the minute for anyone wishing to chance their arm in a ticket lottery for the finals.

Shouldn’t concern too many in this jurisdiction…

Lock the fuckin thread

It might concern sports fans who might like to go toFrance to see a decent soccer match. I’ll let you know how I get on if I get tickets.

Interesting column by Kieran Shannon on the psychology and impact of naming the starting lineup close to kick-off:

Interesting but:…

  • seems fairly speculative
  • the idea that Rio Ferdinand called out David Moyes over this stuff is ridiculous. Ferdinand is a foolish mouthpiece. And top inter-county managers obviously don’t work this way - they’re so much more advanced than Moyes and MUFC of course.
  • lots of aftertiming. It worked great for Shane O’Donnell because that’s the type of character he is but Galway played poorly for the exact same reason
  • poor analogy with rugby. The captain’s run just wouldn’t be the same if the teams weren’t announced beforehand.

Landed two tickets to the quarter final in Marseilles on 30 June. Chuffed. Flight to Paris. TGV to Marseilles.
