The Crown Prosecution Service is considering charges against up to 30 Tory MPs and election agents over serious breaches of electoral laws regarding expenses at the 2015 election.
There would probably would have had to be a load of by-elections in the autumn over it and May might well have lost her majority over it.
Now any charges will have to be brought before the election, so there’s also the obstruction of justice angle to calling an election now.
Christ no. What I meant by distracting from Brexit is that any negotiations surely have to be put aside for the moment. If they are not, then any developments, good, bad or otherwise, will be lost in the clamour over the election.
Is there any chance the Tories don’t emerge with most seats after this general election? You can get 1/14 on them winning most seats. It is surely more like a 1/100 or even shorter chance?
Labour 14/1
Lib dems 66/1
Its buying money if you had a good few grand you could put on it.
Arron Banks, the multimillionaire insurance broker who was planning to stand against Douglas Carswell in Clacton, is now considering whether to scrap his candidacy in the wake of his the former UKIP MP’s withdrawal. Banks told the Guardian:
Twenty four hours after launching my campaign, the new sheriff in town has run the old sheriff out. He’s a coward, he’s too chicken. He didn’t want to fight me because he knew he would lose.
Banks admitted on Wednesday that he “knows nothing at all” about Clacton and had sent an advance party to scout a campaign headquarters and venues for rallies. The UKIP donor who bankrolled the Leave.EU campaign was intending to start campaigning on Monday.
TM showing the resolve and vision of a true leader. They pissed and moaned when they didn’t get the Brexit result they wanted. Court cases, House of Lords interference, constant undermining of the process, claims of she had no mandate. She now calls a GE to evidence the mandate and they decry her for playing politics. The left truly hate democracy and the will of the people.
