Not a hope, this referendum is just to give the two fingers to the French who want to bring in an EU wide financial transaction tax which would be severely frowned upon in central London.
They’ll get a clause like they rightfully did with the euro, and the status quo will continue on.
Doesn’t automatically, but it likely will, as the Scots opt to stay in the EU.
I doubt there will be a brexit this time, as people in doubt will likely opt for the status quo, unless voter apathy wins the day, as the no side are more vehement, and more likely to vote.
The general standard of education and informed debate in England means that an awful lot of people couldn’t care either way, and the ramifications are poorly explained as no one really seems to understand what they are in any case.
Bit of a pointless exercise really. Cameron’s card was marked after the 2010 election when in spite of Labour running the British economy into the ground, the Tories still couldn’t win a majority. He offered this In/Out referendum as a sop to the right wing awkward squad in his own party, a large number of whom missed out on ministerial jobs because of the Coalition. Then after this election he was committed to giving it to them. He isn’t really getting much from the EU in terms of concessions to campaign on.
Boris is playing an interesting game. Cameron says he will stand down before the next election, most of the leadership contenders are on the “In” side, Theresa May and George Osborne in particular. So Boris is gambling on being the leader of the “Out” side and building support from the significant number of “Out” MPs. He is not really a Eurosceptic, he even said yesterday that he was supporting “Out” because then the EU would panic and offer more concessions. No chance of that. This is Boris’ bid for the big job.
Agreed re Boris. Osborne never convinced me he was all that bright, but the best politician is one who is bright enough to listen (sceptically) to those who ate.
Here is a photo I took of George’s country bolthole last week whilst out for a walk with the snappers. I could see tassoti living here. With a cravat and some purple pants.
Getting heavy artillery up there would be a bit of graft though.
My darling wife did point out that mi5 might not take kindly to a paddy taking photos from the hills above.
As an aside, I’m in McDonald’s in moss side having breakfast and there are two hot lesbians at the next table but I can’t get a photo as one is facing me.
Ah lovely.
I think he has enough family trouble without me taking pot shots at his garden.
It’s a weird life they have. Was out on the bike last summer and he was out for a stroll with his kids with armed police at either end if the road.
No joy in that kind of existence.
a lot of people with a vote in the UK cant even speak English to start with so I’d wonder how they are capable of making an informed decision when it comes to voting! I’d imagine the majority of these would vote ‘in’ anyway to make sure they keep their families in far off lands in the quality of lifestyle they are accustomed to
