The modern reality is both Ireland and the UK are important allies for the US, economically the UK is joint fifth with Germany in terms of US exports and Ireland on a par with the UK in terms of imports, The difference to 30 years ago is Ireland is now on a par with any Eiuropean nation.
In terms of geopolitics and military, the US/UK relationship is still the most significant to the US. The UK is a strong second to the US on military aid to Ukraine. Who are you going to rely on in that conlfict and the rising tensions with China? the Germans? the French?
