Young people work hard in school, go to university, get degrees, are eminently employable yet can’t afford to move out of their parents gaff in one of the wealthiest countries in the world. So they have the gumption to get off their holes and head off to the desert in order to scrape together the deposit for a gaff back in ireland.
May God forgive them

Is it front page news though?

A lot of them were mere kids…they can be excused

I couldn’t give a fuck if they’re being charged €800 for a flight home. They’re well able to afford it.

The Irish in the Middle East are as about as popular as travellers

I never realised how despised they are, what’s the reason?

Think it’s the tax free earnings element & feeling they’ve emigrated by choice for lifestyle reasons. I sense there would be far more sympathy if it was, for example, young nurses who couldn’t afford to rent/buy in Ireland being helped out in a humanitarian crisis.

Priced out of ever owning their own home in Ireland so they’re forced to decamp abroad to earn some money. Who the fuck do they think they are like. Fuck them.

The plane landed with only 60% occupancy.

I’ve mixed feelings on it. I think, on one hand, the cost of living here is prohibitive for young people to stay and also one of the great things about being young is travelling all around the world.

On the other hand, folks are going to countries because of the sweet (lack of) taxation, but those countries are known for having pretty shitty human rights records. I think it’s hard to paint yourself as a victim in those situations.

At the end of the day though, if it was my cousin over abroad and there were drone attacks, I’d want the government to get them out safely as quickly as possible. I’d imagine most of those over there trying to get out would pay the 800 euro without question.

Best of luck to anyone who goes off and travel. I have an excellent young maths teacher who told me on Friday she is going to Australia. I told her she is dead right. Now, I’m is serious bother trying to replace her, but you just have to wish them well.

There was a lad on Clare fm the other morning who was on the first flight. Said the locals in Dubai are laughing at the International coverage of it being a war zone. No danger there at all according to him. They can hear missiles being intercepted in the distance alright

Some of them will be our future leaders and are serious operators . They deserve our respect .
