What’s Ripley anthology?

I’m not very well read…

Went to King Frankie there this evening. An Irish movie starring Peter Coonan. A lot of it was filmed in a house two doors down from me. Not a bad owl yarn though a bit bleak. Deals with the fall of the Celtic Tiger and its aftermath.

MARCHING POWDER | Official Trailer (Uncensored) | Danny Dyer, Dir. Nick Love. Only in Cinemas 2025 (youtube.com)
Dyer is a decent sort. Made a career out of laughing at himself really, fair play.

The dirty cunts said it would be a direct sequel to the original, that’s not Tommy Johnson.

The Apprentice is great. CAM version but still great.

Ray Cohn was a some mentor. Trump went from bubbling rich boy to total cunt.

It’s very real to life so?

Went to an odd one this evening. Look Back, a 58 minute long Japanese animated subtitled manga movie. It was a beautiful film, with extraordinary depth. Definitely in the shake up for my film of the year.

I love manga

You might like this one so. It’s about a kid who draws manga.

Where was that on?

Went to Small Things Like These this afternoon. It managed the not inconsiderable feat of making New Ross look even more grim than it actually is. I saw a version that was subtitled. I’d say the three most repeated subtitles were “ breathes heavily”, “sombre music playing” and “morose music playing”.

That said it was a very true representation of the book and it was a good film and very representative of the period. There was one very good piece of detail where the wife took off her bra under her nightdress in front of her husband. 1980s repressed Ireland in a nutshell. Dangermouse and Blankety Blank on the Telly. They must have had the piped TV.
The mother superior did a great turn as the villain of the piece.
Cillian Murphy did a great turn but if I had one criticism it is that he pronounced Tullogher as Tullocker and not Tulloher.
