US Politics - A Society in Meltdown

Get with the programme. Anything which might improve the lives of ordinary people is bang out of order.

JFK was such a socialist extremist. Thankfully he got shot before he could implement the insanity of universal healthcare.

Are you gone back to trying to skew arguments by redefining words again?

Ok run along now.

What’s your definition of populism?
Do you think populism is purely a right wing concept?

If so you are a bigger idiot than even I thought possible.

I wonder which candidate corporate interests want to win?

Personally I think a whole thread could be had about what populism is and what it means. I don’t think it can be reduced to short definitions.

Interestingly, Eoin O’Broin has (at least in the past) actually embraced the notion of Sinn Fein as a populist party.

I think positive or optimistic populism versus negative populism is a more interesting definition than left populism v right populism. It just so happens that left populism pretty much always takes a positive view of society whereas right-wing populism is almost always based on a negative view of society and aims towards a clampdown on people’s freedoms.

I see yer man Andrew McCabe has had his transparently bogus case against him aka an attempt at a Stalinist show trial dropped by the DOJ.

At the same Barr probably felt it convenient to go public about that at this time given that he and Trump are simultaneously interfering with the rule of law in the Roger Stone case.

The Sanders campaign is in a bit of bother in Nevada. A union (the Culinary Union) who represent 60,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno oppose the Sanders health care plan as it means they would have to give up the excellent insurance plan they negotiated with employers over eight years. This is a huge issue as there are tens of millions of unionized workers who have attractive health plans and will not give them up in exchange for a promise the government will take care of them.

It’s also exposed the nasty element within Bernie’s support, there have been vicious online attacks against union leaders, including two women of colour who have been called “whores”’ “fascists” and threatened with violence if they don’t drop their opposition to Bernie’s plan.

Sound familiar? The far left are truly a strange bunch, supposedly in favor of unions and protecting minorities, but even those groups are not safe from attack if they don’t support the revolution.

What a man

“the reputation of the English people for fair play” :joy: :joy: :joy:

Give Bernie his dues and move on.

Bernie has him driven demented.

He did as much as jack lynch did …“difficult atmosphere…unfortunate news…the British troops reacted rather beyond what a disciplined force might be expected to”

Important not to overreact of course

I like Bernie, he’s an honest politician, an almost oxymoronic phrase. Don’t agree with a lot of his policies, but I would hold my nose and vote for him should he be the candidate.

Someone told me today that Michael Bloomberg has a plan to pay any American $2,000 to spend the next month texting every contact in their phone every day, telling them to vote Bloomberg.

If true that man should have all his money taken off him and given to homeless junkies.

He’s hired 500 here in Cali at $2500 a month as “digital staffers”, they have to text all their contacts daily and post daily on socials media. Handy money.

Tonight will be fascinating, the first Democratic debate with Bloomberg participating. It will be interesting to see how aggressively the other candidates go after him. Meanwhile Bernie’s lead continues to increase, the latest national poll has him at 32%, Biden at 16%, Bloomberg at 14%, Warren at 12% and Buttigieg at 8%.

It’s basically Bernie vs someone now and expect a lot of bloodletting to determine who that someone is.
