US Politics - A Society in Meltdown

If you could quote me once where I defend thugs that’d be hugely helpful - I’m confident I haven’t.

I think rioting and looting is reprehensible and criminal. I do not however think because it has happened, and I don’t doubt it has, that it gives the legal authorities carte blanche to escalate violence and break the law. The response has been hugely disproportionate in my view and has enflamed the situation. The authorities bungled efforts have radicalised normal people across the States and beyond. It’s also notable how drastically the response contrasts with policing of far-right protests.

I was being facetious.

I didnt enjoy Sacramento and only passed through Oakland.

You simply have no idea what’s going on, no point talking to you.

No I did not, I asked him how to get to Beacon Street. Little did I know that I was taking my life in my hands.

They were your street cred standards - not mine. Its a little disappointing to find out you didn’t even meet your own threshold for credibility but we are where we are.

It’s a fair comment, Oakland was a complete shithole up to about a decade ago, but is actually a nice spot by and large now.

Must have been the menacing Monaghan accent.

Yes I’ve heard that their police are very racist.

CNN and wolf Blitzer (what cool name) hammering the hammer here. Fox appear to have been a lot more kn the defensive.
That’s just an observation btw before any one of ye mad cunts try to kick what’s left of my hole

Mostly Irish descent sure.

I worked with a lad from Oakland who was the laziest cunt I ever met. He couldn’t even pull his pants up properly. A reformed gang banger. Hed some amount of bullet holes in him

Clearly not. That’s murder and should be condemned without reservation by any reasonably minded person.

But you do need to ask why it’s not been protested by BLM and why CNN and other TV outlets paid it literally zero attention. The answer (uncomfortable as it is, but it has to be confronted) is that the only lives that matter to BLM are black people killed by white cops. Black people killed by black or Hispanic cops, black cops killed, the ~6,000 black people murdered every year mostly by other black people, etc. get no attention. Why is that do you think?

Ok, but seeing that one of their colleagues is shot dead do you not understand why they might be on edge and err on the side of caution, and over it?

Another factor is the curfews, if the cops have to clear streets and protestors won’t move, what do you do that doesn’t amount to escalation?

A human right was the right to oxygen when that racist pig killed that man over an 8 minute period.

Incorrect, it all started when a racist cop murdered a Black Civilian.

I think a peaceful protest for that horrific act was quite justified as long as it stayed within the law. When it didn’t all bets were off. A senseless murder doesn’t justified what happened after
