George Floyd was also not a model citizen. Trying to put him on a pedestel of martyrdom is irresponsible and disingenuous, on the flip side then he should also not be a mere statistic.
In reality nothing will get solved. People will still have their views. They just wont get such an airing any more. Before it seemed that when people disagreed they could have a debate about it or thrash it out. Now all people want to do is talk in their own subsets and demonise the people they dont agree with. If they lose their job or experience any other personal collateral damage even better. Social media helps to fan the flames and this is why we such a massive polarisation in society today.

Thats the narritive now though. And its now being constantly said that he was a scumbag as if somehow it makes things right or justifiable. People arent decrying some hero that was killed, they are outraged over a human being murdered by police. His past has absolutely zero to do with what happened, but the more his character is assassinated, the more credence it gives to people who want this movement shut down

How about firstly some effort to implement the recommendations that have been sitting on a shelf for the last 5 years instead. Serious failure on the political class on all sides. It would be interesting to compare the governors mayors local legislatures etc wringing their hands and what moves they made to implement said recommendations.
