American culture being so frivolous and celebrity obsessed is an under rated aspect of how fascism has won there. Everything in America is folksy, smarmy, superficial, cheap, self obsessed. Everything is fake and geared towards MONETISATION. There is no biting satire with a real purpose, which says something important, only canned laugh tracks for dumb, shit “comedy”.

The likes of Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart and Saturday Night Live are perceived to be the cutting edge of satire. They have as much bite as something very toothless and very dead. They’re fucking shit.

Of course Jon Stewart didn’t think Trump would turn authoritarian because like the rest of the smug American liberal class he’s asleep.
