I doubt they’ll do it in Washington what with the show of force from the National Gaurd, up to 10,000 NG boots on the ground in DC and pictures of them sleeping in the halls of Congress. More likely in state capitals around the US if it happens.
Hard to see where they would come up with 17 Republican senators to vote to impeach. McConnell supposedly considering voting to impeach might sway a few, but 17 would be a hard ask.
Romney, Collins, Murkowski likeliest candidates. Maybe Twoomey and Sasse, if McConnell swings then maybe a couple more but probably not enough.
Will be interesting to see what happens if all hell breaks loose in the next week or so. Could sway it either way

This impeachment hoax has turned out to be a damp squib, but at least it has exposed the divisive intentions of the dems.

If they could only get ten in Congress there’s no hope of getting 17 in the senate. Of course the pressure will ramp up and the fake news media will make this out to be crucial. A lot of them owe their senate seat to President Trumps steerage of the economy a few years ago too.

A majority of the voters believe that there was election fraud. Half of the electorate believe that President Trump won the election.
It’s almost entirely up to McConnell, if he supports conviction then he could bring the required 16 more with him. If he opposes conviction, then that number of Republicans is probably a few at best. Ignore what they are saying publicly, it’s all theater.
I would say the most likely is McConnell will delay the process until after Trump has left office. It’s then up to Democrats to control the process as they have control of the Senate, then the question becomes do Democrats want a long drawn out trial.
Who would McConnell bring with him outside of the ones mentioned above?

Blunt, Portman, Young, Burr, Lee, Moore Capito, Cassidy, Rounds, Tillis, Grassley, Moran, Ernst, Thune, Cotton. It also depends on how much fight there is from Trump loyalists. If McConnell favors a quick conviction to move on, then it will be over quickly, but he could also decide to draw the process out to at least give the impression of putting up a fight. It’s a tricky one for Republicans. The mood seems to have shifted, but this is politics so who knows really.
