US Politics

He seems to also have it in for Ilhan Omar, the Congresswoman from Minnesota which has a large Somalia population.

Have you ever been to the States? Like all countries it has its issues but generally speaking it’s the best country on the planet and over many, many decades has justified its role as the leader of the free world.

Just because you don’t like the current political leadership there doesn’t make it is a hell hole.

You’re some simpleton

Very mature response.

Just throw out soundbites and when challenged resort to insults. Says a lot about you.

By what metrics? Genuinely

Would ICE have a TFK profile? Tourists to US would have to reveal five years of social media activity under new Trump plan | Trump administration | The Guardian

It’s an absolutely great country to live in if you have money or the means/education to earn money in the one of the larger cities. Which in fairness most of us here do.
Absolutely awful place to live if you’re poor that’s true.
It’s a bit over egged to say it’s an absolute tipp town style shit hole.

Any country is good to live in if you have plenty of money. If I had the money, I’d have a place in the leafy suburbs of Dublin or if I really had the money, an apartment in New York etc.
Having no money might be easier in Ireland than it would be in America, but it’s still no fun!

Infrastructure, facilities, opportunities.

Generally speaking if you are willing to work hard in any field, including manual, unskilled work, you can eke out a decent living. Generally a pretty safe place too, with a strong, unforgiving legal system which most citizens support.

Of course there are areas of significant poverty and drug use etc. Medical insurance, or lack thereof, a huge problem for many ordinary people also. Not many ordinary folk can afford to go to Yale and Harvard but there’s many, many other educational opportunities out there which my own kids took up. It hasn’t held them back in their chosen fields.

It’s not perfect but no country is. Having lived there for almost three decades it’s just annoying when people base what they see and hear on the States from biased left wing media outlets like RTE. The country went to shit under Obama but most people are doing better now under the big, bad Republicans.

Yeah but lots of people do have money over there so for them it’s not a shithole of a country.
Almost every Irish lad I know over there is doing pretty well for himself. Most of them have no third level education as such but would be tradesmen or just fairly cute hoors.
There’s load of faults obviously starting with that cunt trump but it’s still a great country in lots of ways.

I don’t think a country that refuses to provide a functioning public health system or where many of the people are so uneducated that they consider public healthcare or any government initiative “communism” can be considered “the best country on the planet”, but what do I know

I’m alright Jack

What do you know about the health service over there? Have you personal experience of using it yourself?

Or are you just happy to throw out lazy tropes without any first hand knowledge or experience of the subject at hand?

So you’re saying the country did become a shit hole under Obama?

Air Conditioning.

Other than that, 5% of the world’s population, yet… 25% of the world’s wealth, 30% of the top global 2000 companies, 40% of the worlds military, 40% of the worlds innovation, dominant in tech, medical research and pharma, 50% of the top 100 universities, etc. etc. It’s only rival is China and China is facing catastrophic demographic decline.

On a personal level, for a married couple 12% marginal income tax rate to 100K, 22% from 100-200K. Salaries are much higher than Europe, in many cases 3X and you pay half the taxes, how bad.

The USA ranks near last in life expectancy among OECD nations and highest rate of prevantable deaths in care despite huge investment.

Other counties of similar living standards can achieve universal coverage with half the cost per capita and achieve better patient outcomes.

How does a country whose main landmass has never suffered an invasion justify such a large military? Is it not a colossal waste of taxpayer money?

Came in handy when Europe was controlled by fascists. Like it or not the US as the only western superpower is the defender of democracy and personal freedom globally, unless you’d prefer to live under a Putin or Xi regime. Do you think Russia or China would balk at expansionism if it wasn’t for the US as a deterrent?

How would Ukraine have done so far in their war without US military support?

Some lovely jingoism and buzzwords there alright. I’m sure that provides a crumb of comfort to some of the 36 million living below the poverty line in the USA to know that money that could be used to improve their lot is given to the military industrial complex.
