US Politics

Lolz

I have similar experience of the US to yourself. In my experience the vast majority of Irish people are extremely ignorant when it comes to the US, basing their opinions on social media, a few trips to Disney and NYC, or the real experts who did a summer on a J1.

The most diverse and well integrated country on the planet, vastly more opportunities regardless of economic or ethnic background, none of the toxic class bullshit of western Europe.

The poor will always be with us. 36 million is about 10% of the population, similar to Ireland, close to 600k living in poverty in the second richest country in Europe.
Poverty is a very difficult nut to crack in any country.

America is an amazing country.

You’re not helping your argument. Anyone heading to Disney or NY will see a much better version of America than the one of hicks in trailer parks or projects teaming with gangbangers.

Land of the free, home of the brave.

God bless.

Which means you’re out of touch and fairly clueless about what Ireland is like nowadays,

Ireland is grand nowadays, thanks to American investment. In many ways it’s similar to a smaller east coast US state. like Maryland or Connecticut. It’s certainly the most US centric country in Europe (I say that as someone who spends a lot of time in Ireland).

Nice try.
It was EU money that got Ireland up an running. There is not much American ‘investment’ in Ireland. Some companies pay taxes here. I don’t invest in Social Protection or Health, but my taxes end up there for some reason.

Which one of you lads used to be @labane??
It’s hard to believe you’re two different people :man_shrugging:

There are 200k working in Ireland for US companies, and another 200K working supporting said companies. Without American investment Ireland’s economy would collapse back to 1980s levels.

It’s hard to imagine there are two Irish people on this forum of 100 that live in the US?

Well, they wouldn’t have been invaded…

But the vast majority of people don’t live in Disney or in a trailer park or gangland, so visits to any of those places tells you very little about life in the country.

No, I assumed @JohnnyZetor was the latest version of @labane with @SlippyStevie as the most recent before that

I know dozens of Irish that live in the US and none are indoctrinated like you two, most would join in if you were taking the piss, you lads are grossly offended :grinning:
