The issue is the handling of sensitive government communications. Instead of using the US government email system, Clinton used a private email which was hosted on her own private server at her residence. This first came to light during the Benghazi hearings when she was asked to turn over her emails, and after deleting personal emails she turned over 30,000 work related emails. These included 113 that the FBI determined to be classified and some top secret. Clinton initially claimed there were no classified emails, and later modified this to no âmarked as classified emailsâ. So, yes, the issue is the content of the emails, and whether Clinton and her aides handled classified material according to US government rules (intentional or not does not come into it, individuals have been prosecuted for unintentional breaches). Accessing classified emails from a laptop belonging to a non govt employee would be a major breach of the rules, although arguably this would see Huma Abedin charged rather than Clinton.
On Comey, itâs hard to say whatâs going on. His boss, Attorney General Loretta Lynch (who met Bill Clinton in her private plane the day before Hillary testified to the FBI) reportedly objected to Comey making this public and is livid with him as he essentially went over her head. He did it anyway, and itâs hard to see what political gain there would be in it for him, assuming Clinton becomes president.
Heâs screwed anyway. I can only think he is a man of genuine moral conviction, who was so dismayed at the squashing of the case from above that he felt obliged to go around it, or, he stands to benefit from it in some way personally (the complete opposite)
Either way, hilary will smear him as badly as she possibly can now.
I see reported this morning that Comey couldnât know what was in the new emails as the FBI didnât, nor still donât, have a warrant to access them?
Again, in early with the misogynistic language. Some posts back you posted a load of tosh about knowing sexual assault victims and about how you couldnât be a misogynist as a result.
Yet here you are again doubling down on the misogynistic rhetoric.
With friends like you, sexual assault victims donât need enemies.
Post up some more tinfoil hat, evidence free, conservative conspiracy theories while youâre at it, there. Youâve spent the whole thread doing it so why change at this stage?
Whatâs even more remarkable is that she didnât seem to make much effort to hide what she was up to. Seems like she didnât need to.
Which could mean that there is a much bigger story here in terms of how Clintonâs people have been able to infiltrate the justice department and help to look a blind eye on this possible corruption,
You have spent 12 hours a day, every day for the past year on here fighting with strangers over the Internet.
I donât know your personal circumstances, but would suggest that you should put less time into the Internet aggression and more time into your daily life
Thereâs nothing political in what Comey did. He was obliged to notify congress that new evidence relevant to the case had been discovered and would be reviewed. Thereâs no indication that the emails are of any importance either. It was a normal procedure blown out of all proportion by a hysterical media and by people who donât understand how congressional testimony works.
"In recent weeks, the mood at Trump Tower has veered between despair and denialâwith a hit of resurgent glee when the news broke that the FBI was looking into more of Clintonâs emails. When I asked one senior Trump adviser to describe the scene inside, he responded: âThink of the bunker right before Hitler killed himself. Donaldâs in denial. Theyâre all in denial.â
The story destroys any alt-right conspiracy theory notion that Clinton being cleared in the first place was a political manoeuvre by Comey or that âthe system has been rigged in her favourâ a theory that has been repeatedly put forward on this thread by paranoid, fringe-dwelling nuts such as @anon7035031, and by Trump and his campaign.
As well as this, the perception now rests with the public that Fridayâs announcement by Comey may have been a political manoeuvre against Clinton given the timing and the fact that Comey is a Republican.
The Clinton camp have spun this narrative very effectively since the story broke.
Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander and all that.
The Trump camp and Trump-biased media have also been shown to have lied in the wording they used in how they reacted to this story, just one more in the longest tapestry of lies in western political history.
No, youâre wrong. What Comey has done is extraordinary. Government agencies, and in particular the FBI and Justice department, traditionally do nothing that might even appear political within 60 days of a presidential election. Comey is under no obligation to inform congress now, he could just as easily wait until after the election.
There is something else going on here, which may or may not be revealed before the election. Comey is a very ambitious person, so to do something that could end his career is extraordinary (if Clinton is elected, he is gone. Lynch would fire him now if she could). Most likely he is covering his ass, his staff have uncovered something significant, and if he withheld it and it was leaked, he would be in more serious trouble, and possibly legal trouble.
The following is speculation, but based on studying the evidence, rather than doing as @Sidney does and naively believing Clintonâs lies (remembering the average liberal isnât very intelligent).
We have to assume Clintonâs server was not hacked, as if it was WikiLeaks would have releasing her emails. Clinton resisted handing over her emails and had to be issued a subpoena to do so. Prior to handing them over, the emails were segregated into work related and personal related, copies of the work related handed over to the FBI, and then the server wiped with BleachBit. The interesting question of course is what emails were not handed over, for example were emails relating to the Clinton Foundationâs interaction with the State Dept withheld. This is where whatâs on Humaâs laptop at home could be interesting, as Huma was also employed by the Clinton Foundation while working for Hillary at the State dept.
Whatever is on that laptop, warrant or no warrant, the FBI have seen it. Comey canât say that, as so far the Justice dept are resisting issuing a warrant. Itâs a high stakes game of poker, and Clinton is really going out on a limb attacking Comey. Demanding that Comey release the emails while Obamaâs Attorney General wonât issue a warrant to even view them is disgustingly dishonest, even for Clinton.
There is nothing misogynist in anything I have posted, but interestingly and tellingly, the only people who have ever accused me of being a misogynist, whether online or in real life, are radical feminists. I have news for you mate, the radical feminists donât want your support, as assuming you are a white male, you are by definition in their eyes a misogynist. Attempts to make your case as a feminist just confirms you are as barking mad as they are.
