I’ve been told reliably that whilst the vans have the technology to pick you up from nearly a km away, they are actually set much closer. I’m not 100% certain, but I think 23degrees was mentioned, which is pretty close, so you’ll be grand I’d say.

I think google maps tell you if their are tolls on the route. Try AA Route Planner if it’s not on Google maps

M6 toll is 2.90.

The one on the galway road is 2.80 or 2.90 iirc.
Change or card, both simple.
Watch out for speed vans and speed gardai under the bridges in athlone where the motorway speed drops.

Trundling along the Dock Road earlier today and some tard starts reversing out of Statoil/Topaz/Circle (Wan)K directly into traffic. Only furious beeping of the horn and swerving out of the way prevented a massive pile up.
