Venezuela

Back on topic, do you think Sinn Fein leadership were justified in this support of the Maduro regime?

Surely a party that’s supposed to represent the interests of the working class and is apparently opposed to government corruption should be condemning the despicable Maduro regime rather than supporting it?

Crikey, comparing the US electoral college to Venezuela. At least that’s pricked up Sid’s ear who just ignores this failed socialist state these days.

I know, it’s a ridiculous comparison. Venezuela’s electoral system mightn’t be great but there’s no way it’s as anti-democratic as that of the US.

You don’t get it Tim. To delusional Socialists, Venezuela is a far superior economic model than the US. That’s why you have millions of economic refugees streaming south across the southern US border, walking across Mexico and central America and trying to enter Venezuela.

It is actually impossible to overstate the delusion and outright stupidity of leftists.

I’m more left than right pal if I was to put myself in a political place. A great inspiration of mine is Bob marley, who had no interest in politics. However he’s songs made him seem like a leftie which is why the yanks tried to kill him. My point is that in principle there’s plenty to go around but people get greedy.

What sort of mandate did President Maduro get? I wasn’t following the tally or the count on this one.

Did they inject him with cancer?

The result went down very well in North Korea and Russia.

It was a very low turnout, mostly people who were paid to vote for Maduro. The opposition boycotted the election as it was a farce.

No mate, assassination attempt in his house a few days before the smile Jamaica concert.

The tfk anti Venezuela crew are very defensive when a few home truths about the USA are posted.

I You haven’t posted anything resembling truth as yet. The anti US TFK brigade claim that the US system is rigged to favor Republicans and the electorate who voted for Trump are racists. Nevermind the fact that the same system and electorate overwhelming voted for a black president twice. Winning most of the states that Trump won.

You deflected onto the electoral college. It’s risible.

I only pointed out a fact

You’ve expressed an opinion, not a fact, that the US electoral college system is somehow unfair. Thats based on ignorance of how the US system of government works. Mind you you hear the same from a lot of Americans so don’t feel picked on.

No. I expressed the fact - incontrovertible- that the President of the USA was elected with a minority of the popular vote. That’s all I said. Nothing more or less.

What was the point you were trying to make on a thread regarding Venezuela?

That the President of the USA was elected on a minority of the popular vote.

But the popular vote is irrelevant as that’s not how the election works. The presidential election is a reflection of the constitution which balances states rights versus federal rights. It ensures that presidential candidates pay attention to all states, not just the densely populated ones.

The lesson of the 2016 election is the arrogance of HRC who assumed she would win the swing states Obama won without campaigning or appealing to voters there. And of course calling their residents deplorables didn’t help.
