It was well documented that I was being rested by Rocko following some recently personal difficulties and I decided to take the opportunity to do some TV work with my week off in anticipation of doing it full time when I hang up my astro runners.
We did our best to throw away out title in the first half tonight - out played, out fought, out thought, out run, we were having a nightmare. But for Bandage we would have been three or four down, the shapely Wexican easily having his best ever game in a DART Green jersey. To say we were lucky to be one down at half time is an understatement.
At half time Jimmy was forced to withdraw through injury and I could not stsnd idly by as our dream went up in flames, the crowd were chanting for Tinnion and Rocko, this was destiny.
Think Peter Canavan coming on in the final minutes of the 2003 All-Ireland Senior Football Final, multiply it by 1,000 and you are still nowhere near the lift the struggling TFK got at half-time today when I was summoned from the Sky studios to pull TFK’s title hope out of the fire. I took off my cardigan and puled on the DART Green and what followed was epic.
Within 60 seconds of my appearance on the sideline we were level through Stevie G, within 720 seconds were 2-1 ahead through Smelly. And so it stayed until the final whistle.
It all comes down to the final game of the season, 13 victories in a row have taken us to the precipice of greatness.
