Didn’t get time to chat to the lads after the game because I was searching frantically for my car key, which I found outside the fence for some reason, but enough of that.
This game tonight showed how far this team has come. One nil down to a fit, committed but not spectacular team after a shocking first half, without Rocko and then cesc4 retiring at half time. We would have lost this game a year ago by a few goals but we weren’t having that. We simply weren’t.
Stevie G stood up to the plate. Equalised and set up Smelly’s winner. Superb performance from the balding Wexican.
But we weren’t leaving it out there. We just weren’t.
I will depart to astro.ie to input our latest result, a result that puts us top of the table by two points until around 10.30 tonight.
But Sophis if your reading, we are there against ye next week and we will not be leaving it behind us.
Fair fucks lads. I was relying on text updates from Tinnion which mysteriously stopped around half time and I was deeply concerned. But that’s a smashing win and there’s a resolute spirit about the team now that makes us very very difficult to beat. I cannot wait for next week. Cannot wait.
Tinnion mentions Canavan in 2003 but tonight reminded me more of Laz Molloy in 1984. Who will ever forget that clash between Offaly and Longford in the Leinster senior football championship?
The Longford men were utterly dominant and the Offaly 'keeper was having the proverbial nightmare. Laz was seated in the Cusack Stand when the official announced over the tannoy at half time, ‘Could Laz Molloy please make his way to the Offaly dressing room?’
Off Laz went into the dressing room and returned donning the 'keeper’s jersey to inspire his team-mates as Offaly came back to win 3-15 to 3-10. Majestic.
cesc4 came off with diarrhoea - no messing.
Tinnion’s best placed to do ratings as he watched a lot of it before saving us.
No messing, part 2. Me and Jugs are heading back out to the venue now to scout the opposition next week. They’re kicking off in ten minutes at 9.30pm.
Discussed that with Tinnion and briefly with Bandage via text.
Tinnion says he would rather if we had to win the last game so that we approach it with the right mentality. I don’t agree with that. There is nothing stopping us approaching it with the right mentality - but Sophis have dropped points which has to be a good thing.
I won’t be posting about Sophis up here. Rest assured, our boys will know exactly what to expect. Their result should change nothing in our eyes - we wanted to win the league by going on a winning run. We’ll keep our focus on winning, and only winning, next week too.
I must say, tonight was the proudest I have been captaining a side since I captained Faythe Harriers to a Wexford U12 county hurling championship victory, scoring all the team’s points in the final.

I agree with you.
There’s no logic to needing to win the game.
We’ll approach the game like we need to win it. We’ll go out there and win the fucking game too and we’ll be heroes, every one of us.
But if we do slip up and things don’t go right due to uncontrollabe circumstances then we can always try and salvage a draw.

was that the one and only point scored in the game… or none and the rest of players just scored goals
Madre del Dia! So the rumours are true, Sophis bottled it. Un-fucking-believable.
Well I think we just have to play our regular game next week. Playing for the draw would be suicide. We’re not cut out for catenaccio, we go for the jugular by instinct. And lack of ability to pass it around ad naseasum on those small pitches.
