Very well. Kids in tow we did the river walk in Lismore, the towers, hurdy gurdys in Youghal, and a red hot day on the beach at whiting bay. An excellent dinner in Foleys in lismore this evening to round the weekend off. Its a beautiful and underrated part of the country.
Yeah, I suppose theyāre looking to try come good later on in the championship if they make it that far. A full deck is a strong, strong side though. Thereāll be a fine crowd in Walsh park for it
True. Whatās the story with BG, do they just pretty much have half of the cityās pick? It seems the likes of Roanmore and DLS are packed in the centre like sardines and BG take the whole of the south side then
Yes, Ballygunner have pretty much all the southern flank of the city where most of the development in Waterford City has been over the past 20-25 years. De La Salle would have had a presence there historically but for what at the time was a good land deal, moved to Gracedieu maybe about 15 years ago. Mount Sion, De La Salle and Roanmore would be all pretty much on top of each other. Erins Own as well really.
I see. Quite similar to a lot of the cities Iād say. Na Piarsaigh would be like BG in that respect but the DLS and Mount Sion of limerick are all struggling so hard to compare too
Not sure how much of a presence DLS had on the south of the city. They were traditionally a Redmondite Ballybricken club. In fairness to Ballygunner they manage their resources very well. It would have been easy for there to have been a falling out and a splinter club formed but it hasnāt happened. Itās also worth bearing in mind that when Mount Sion were at their most dominant 1940s to 1970s all of the housing development took place in their quadrant of the city.
When Mount Sion were at their most dominant, they were backboning Waterford, All Ireland winning teams. For the scale of their dominance since their re-emergence in 1992, Ballygunner havenāt contributed a whole lot to the Waterford county team over 30 years.
Thatās true but there is a much better spread of talent across the county now. It used to be just one or two city clubs and Portlaw, Clonea, Dungarvan and Tallow.
