An Irishwoman travelling in outback Australia has been charged with hiding the body of her newborn baby.
The 25-year-old backpacker, was charged with âconcealing the birth of a child that died before or after birthâ, Police in Western Australia told ABC News.
The woman had been travelling in the remote Kimberley region in North Western Australia with friends.
It is reported that she had not realised she was pregnant.
She gave birth in May, while alone in the town of Halls Creek.
It is alleged the Irishwoman hid the newborn and did not tell her friends what had happened until days later.
Her friends then took her to a hospital, where staff notified police.
Western Australiaâs major crime squad was called in to investigate the death of the baby and charged the woman with concealing the birth.
The woman appeared at Kununurra Magistrates Court at the end of May when the case was referred to Perth Magistrates Court, where she is due to appear in October.
The woman has not entered a plea.

Shelley Dufresne, 32, and Rachel Respess, 24, both teach at Destrehan High School in St. Charles Parish. They are each charged with one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, according to the St. Charles Herald Guide.

Multiple sources say the student, then 16 and now 17, met the two teachers at the Kenner home where some of their sexual encounters were videotaped.
Investigators confirmed Wednesday that the encounter allegedly took place at Respessâ apartment after a Destrehan football game Sept. 12, and that all three were together at the residence until early morning hours of the next day.
Dufresne, who has taught at the school for 10 years, was arrested Tuesday and released from St. Charles Parish jail on $200,000 bond later that night. According to WGNO, the mother of three is under house arrest, and is not allowed to leave her home except for continued intensive mental health treatment, doctorsâ appointments, and church.
Respass, who is in her second year teaching at the school, turned herself in on Wednesday.
Police began their investigation last Friday after educators learned that a male student had been âbragging to other students that he was having a sexual relationship with teachers,â according to a St. Charles Sheriffâs Office report.
WDSU reports that the teachers were put on paid leave last Friday after the allegations came to light.
Parents arenât taking the allegations lightly.

Biaksangzuala severely damaged his spinal cord when attempting a series of somersaults to celebrate his equaliser for Bethlehem Vengthlang FC during their match against Chanmari West FC last Tuesday.
The 23-year-old was taken to Aizawl Civil Hospital and underwent surgery on his spine, but died of his injuries on Sunday morning.

A university has banned a student football team from wearing their new strip - because they are sponsored by a PORN SITE.
The Rutherford Raiders initially put the logo of X-rated website PornHub on their shirts as a joke as they competed in the inter-mural football leagues at Kent University.
The website contacted them and offered to sponsor for real but the university has ruled it offside.
University spokesman Martin Herrema said the team would be banned from playing if they wore the kit on campus.
He said: "The University of Kent sports department would never sanction sponsorship of this type - it is totally inappropriate.
"The team has been spoken with and will not be allowed to wear the shirts in question at any time.
âWe take this issue very seriously and inter-college sports teams, which are the responsibility of Kent Sport, must present any potential sponsorship and/or logos for approval.â
A member of the team told The Tab student newspaper they had difficulty getting local companies to sponsor them.
He said: "We had a real problem with local sponsors not getting back to us and no establishment on campus co-operating.
âMoney was put in to make up for the sponsor and we had nothing to put on the front and for a laugh between the team that was what got put on the front.â

Footage of the Carrauntoohil cross being felled has been released to the media and is now being examined by gardaĂ.
A video of the incident was sent to TheJournal.ie earlier today and shows an unidentified individual cutting the cross at the base with an angle grinder. The cross is seen falling later in the video.
The Journal reports that the footage was passed on to detectives in Kilorglin who said it a ânew developmentâ in the investigation.
Gardai are now examining the footage as they investigate the November 22 incident.
There are several anti-Catholic protest messages in the five minute video. The focus of the messages appears to have been on the Catholic Churchâs ownership of primary schools in Ireland. One message reads: âIf you agree with the reasons behind this act then like and share this video. I am a parent, not affiliated to any(one).â
The cross was returned to its position at the peak of the mountain at the weekend, with a team of volunteers undertaking the task. Atheist Ireland condemned the felling of the cross, but objected to it being returned to its original place, asking that planning permission be required as the cross did not represent the entire community.
A BRAZILIAN MAN accused of stabbing a woman to death in a Rio suburb has confessed to have murdered 41 people, almost all of them women, âfor the fun of it,â police said.
Local media are today reporting that the total could be 43.
âHe wanted to kill women â white women, not black ones. He followed the victims, studying them closely before committing the crimes,â said police commissioner Pedro Henrique Medina from the northern suburb of Nova Iguacu.
The man was identified as Sailson Jose das Gracas, a 26-year-old whom police describe as a psychopath.
They said they were checking his statements against past investigations, and so far they tally with the evidence.
Gracas says he murdered 37 women, three men and a two-year-old child over a nine-year killing spree, explaining he killed the child because he feared it would cry and attract neighborsâ attention.
Broadcaster Globoâs G1 news portal quoted Gracas as saying:
I observed them, I studied them. I waited for a month, sometimes a week, depending on the place. I tried to ascertain where they lived, what their families were like. I kept watch on their houses and then after a while went there at dawn, waited for my chance and entered.
He explained he started out as a petty thief.
âAt 17, I killed the first woman and that gave me a buzz. I kept on doing it and I enjoyed it,â he said, adding on one occasion a couple, Cleusa Balbina and her former husband Jose Messias, contracted him to kill someone for money. The pair are now under arrest.
Gracas said he used a gun in contract killings but strangled his other victims.
He planned his crimes meticulously, wearing a rain jacket in order to conceal his identity and gloves in order not to leave fingerprints, adding he became addicted to murder.

âIâd kill someone and then would think about the victim for two or three months. After that, Iâd go off huntingâ for another victim, Gracas revealed.

Under Brazilian law, the maximum prison term is 30 years.
