What was the last wedding or 21st you were at in Wexford that this wasn’t belted out at?

or night in coppers

And he calls the rest of us boggers. Bandage shown up here
badly.

Wexford beat Sligo 3-7 to 1-6. The goals were scored by Lyng (penalty), Brosnan and Waters. It was a pretty grim affair apparently and Brosnan was sent off on a straight red card for throwing a box at some cunt.

brosnan sending off v. harsh, it was right in front of me, harrison the sligo no. 2 was coming out with the ball and brosnan drove at the ball with his fist, harriosn went down in a heap, and the ref ( whom i thought had a shocker) gave a red card.

jfk would still be alive today if sligo were doing the shooting they were terrible, they had no threat up front, and two bad mistakes for our last 2 goals.

the division is wide open now.

I think we’ll need to win 5 of the 7 games so it’s probably a case of winning both remaining home matches and then getting a victory in Cavan or Roscommon. The latter probably presents a better opportunity to come away with a win. What did you make of the Wexford display? I’ve missed the two home league games but was pretty underwhelmed by the display in Drogheda and the two O’Byrne Cup games I was at. The main positive was that they looked pretty fit but the football wasn’t great.

did some good things today, some nice link up between bradley and the forwards. bench is poor defender wise so we could do with G. molloy back as soon as possible.

Mutley went well today, fitness is encouraging and the football has progressed tremendously since i watched them play longford in the o’byrne cup so at least theyre going the right way, i doubt pat gilroy is losing sleep however.

Spratt seemed encouraged and a full forward line of Lyng, Roche and Brosnan has some potential. Add a fit Banville to the mix and we’re doing well. Our half forwards never seem to go beyond half way anyway so it doesn’t matter if they can score or not. Apparently Bradley looked like he was back enjoying the game again. When did he fall out with it?

I thought it was a pretty good result for the yellas. Yere football certinly wasn’t as bad as Div 3 suggests.

Grim if you’re from Sligo but ye did alright.

Apparently Mattie played the ful game for Kilanerin in the All County League on Saturday. They won by 0-13 to 1-7 against local rivals Castletown.

Still no word on whether he’s targeting returning the squad or not.

Hard to see Brosnan holding a place now that he’ll be out for four weeks following the straight red. Clears the way nicely for PJ Banville to return to the side.

Good result yesterday even if the performance wasn’t great. Couldn’t believe how poor Sligo were, we could easily have beaten them by 10 points or more, except for some very wayward shooting in the first half. Our midfield dominated the first half with eric being especially strong, even though he did tire in the second half. The backs were good but need to cut out the needless fouling. I thought Wadding was particularly impressive; he’s been a real find this season. Upfront we weren’t as good, the half forward line was pretty brutal and apart from a very well taken goal i thought Brosnan didn’t contribute much from open play. Still the team is looking miles better than the first game against louth and with Banville, molloy and morrisey to come back we should improve. Cavan aren’t going well so if we can pick up points there next weekend we would have a great chance of going up. My main worry would be the lack of a right footed free taker now that Brosnan is suspended (and the fact that we have no bench).

The half forward line is a concern all right and Redmond Barry needs some support there. As you say padjo, Adrian Morrissey would be a good option for wing forward - does anybody know when he’s back from injury? Needless fouling is a constant frustration for me when watching our footballers too. Stuff like indisciplined jersey tugs when an attacker’s been forced away from goal or a stray slap or fist when a lad’s completely bottled up are regular enough occurrences. Jason Ryan should be doing everything possible to get Matty Forde back into the set up.

=Muttley

In fairness he didn’t do it once last Sunday. Prob the first games I’ve ever been at there he’s playing and didn’t get booked.

I heard on the radio though that he gave a couple of badly stray passes towards the end of the first half that kept Sligo in the game? Not sure if it was just him but it sounded like the backs were doing their usual shite of running out into trouble and putting themselves under needless pressure.

seems like an awful lot of them are afraid to kick te abll, and all like to defer to d. murphy to drive it in, malone must ave covered every balde of grass, but didnt kick the ball once. none of the full back line seem confident kicking the ball hence we need molloy back.

As if Masterson actually said any of this. Brendan Furlong making up quotes in the Wexford People again:

Confidence high for Cavan game

IF YOU win enough ball you’ll win matches, simple as that. That was Anthony Masterson’s view on Wexford’s win over Sligo, but right now he’s looking to an improved performance when they travel to take on Cavan in their Allianz Football League Division 3 game at Breffni Park on Saturday evening next (7.30 p.m.).

'It was a ball-winning problem that held us back in other games, but credit to Eric Bradley in particular and DaithĂ Waters for their displays in midfield.

‘They drove for possession and won an abundance of ball, while they were also quick on the breaking ball. They also drove at the Sligo team which played a huge part in the victory. We would take a seven-point victory over Sligo at any time,’ he added.

Now that they have put victories back-to-back, the goalkeeper is clearly looking forward to the Cavan game.

'It will be our first league game under lights. It’s a new venture for us but one we’re looking forward to taking on.

‘Confidence is now high. I can see the confidence coming back to where it was two years ago. Wins bring confidence so we’ll be aiming to maintain momentum.’

The Wexford players have set targets for the month of March and seem determined to achieve them.

Masterson said: 'We aimed to win our four games in March, but we realise that Cavan will be determined to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat.

'We all realise the advantage of home venue. Cavan will be up for this game in front of home supporters. When you look at it, a defeat would put them in relegation trouble, while two points would keep us in the promotion race.

‘Our aim is to win on Saturday. We are looking no further than that at the moment, but should we keep winning our final game is against current leaders Antrim.’

Wexford will be without the suspended Ben Brosnan, who has been one of the side’s leading attackers this year. Also out through injury are Adrian Morrissey, P.J. Banville and Paddy Byrne.

Wexford will feel the three points are manageable should they be able to bring their game up another gear.

It says PJ Banville has been ruled out - just when we thought he was nearly back.
