I donât think they ever properly replaced that No.10, what was his name? The fella with no teethâŚ
Larry Murphy was a class act
It finished 0-16 to 0-13 in the hurling.
The footballers defeated Fermanagh. We need to beat Roscommon away and Antrim at home to get promoted, I reckon.
He was some yoke in fairness. had a great year in 03 in full forward. put it down to new contacts iirc!
Larry Murphyâs finest hour was destroying the vastly overrated Brian Whelehan in the 1996 Leinster Final.
Thanks for that, Larry.
ah yes the golden age of wexford hurling! 96 to 97 i believe it was
There was actually a huge piss up in Curracloe last night to mark the centenary of the local Shelmaliers club winning the All Ireland hurling championship for Wexford in 1910. Lovely stuff.
Anyway, two real positives to come out of today:
- Keeping a clean sheet away to Carlow.
- Holding them to only sixteen points.
I propose the following headline for newspaper reports:
Super Carlow Go Ballistic Wexford Are Atrocious.
I know a few from the shels club. alright sorts the lot of them. seriously its a pity wexford didnt capitalise on 96 sooner. it seem only now the work is being done. another year in div 2 will stunt them even further
I canât overstate how big next weekendâs clash with Kildare in Wexford Park will be. We lost to Meath in the league prior to winning the 1996 All Ireland and I have every faith that Carlow will be Colm Bonnarâs Meath.
Shocking stuff - Carlow? Fooking Carlow.
Fair play to the footballers.
Weâll beat Kildare and Antrim at home so it basically means whoever wins between ourselves and Laois in Portlaoise on Easter Sunday will join Clare in the showpiece final.
Hâon Laois.
A nationâs eyes will be on this upcoming encounter.
Hurling needs a strong Wexford!
I blame the GAA for todayâs result. Like, itâs ridiculous to give the likes of Carlow a chance to improve and even get victories over Wexford. Surely the GAA should have just not relegated Wexford that time. Playing in Division Two is doing nothing for Wexford hurling and the closed shop should have been retained with ourselves being let stay up in Division One and Carlow, Kildare and Westmeath and the rest should have been left to play each other all the time.
Well said bandage. Nonetheless, a great day for the home of the great Johnny Nevin.
I am worried about Gavin after this result. Gavin can you check in buddy? Dont do anything rash.
This result was in the pipeline since Carlow thrashed Westmeath a week after Wexford only just put away the same opposition in the last quarter.
What do you bet that some of the egos on the team thought they only had to turn up to beat Carlow having got a decent result in Ennis last Sunday?
I wouldnât blame Bonner entirely for this - the attitude problems of certain Wexford players have been well flagged for years now.
You said it: Wexford hurling RIP. Time to divert the County Boardâs funds to build a museum to immortalise the achievements of its former greats, rather than waste it on funding the current lotâs training expenses. Let 'em walk back from Carlow this evening tooâŚ
Limerick would bate Wexford at this stage
Iâm not sure that Iâm following whats going on this thread correctly. Some of you seem to be saying that Carlow beat Wexford in hurling. I thought this thread was for serious discussion, but like everything it descends into piss taking and farce.
Noe can someone give me the score please so I can check I predicted the correct margin of Wexfordâs win? Cheers.
Iâm not sure why people are so shocked, Carlow and Laois are coming teams imo. Wouldnât suprise me if one of them pipped Wexford to the final with Clare.
