I supported Bonnar last year but was pissed off with how the season panned out - tame league final defeat to Offaly and then exiting the championship on our own patch to Limerick. Then I was fairly annoyed with his āoff seasonā work and decision to drop committed lads like Mick Jacob from the panel completely. Obviously thereās systematic issues and years of mismanagement that have largely brought us to where we are but I didnāt think he was helping matters either. The result in Clare was positive and I had a bit of a rethink but losing to Carlow has seen us plumb to new depths. I donāt think anyone else could do much worse so Iād happily tell him to sling his hook to be honest.
Do any of us really think this is aour Meath a la 1996? Not really.
From what your saying Bandage and from what Iāve seen elsewhere, Damien Fitz certainly seems on the money when questioning the committment or agendaās of certain members of the panel. This is a fucking joke. I know Carlow have improved markedly in recent years, likewise Laois, and in a way it isnāt surprising. But it cannot be right that Carlow are beating us, at a point when we should be taking the league very seriously. God only knows how weāll go in the championship.
Jokeshop
Congratulations on your home countyās win today. It must be a great thrill to claim the scalp of once mighty Wexford.
Shocked because we beat Carla by about 30 points last year.
Typical soccer reaction.
Carlow are massively improved and have been putting massive effort into underage for a while, Wexford only really started this more recent, the result probably mirrors these efforts. Not much Bonner can do without talent.
John Meyler will get Kerry promoted and weāll still be languishing in Division Two so thereāll be a rematch from hell next year.
Wexford versus Kerry.
It would be a smashing way for RTE to launch the season if it was the opening clash of the campaign.
Carlow have seven hurling club. Its fairly shameful that Wexford canāt beat them regardless of how much theyāve improved.
Point being heās dropped a decent portion of it when weāre clearly not overloaded with talent to begin with. As I say, years of mismanagement but his decisions to cast aside Michael Jacob, Stephen Doyle and a few others arenāt helping either. Carlow being competitive for a few years at minor level doesnāt alter the fact thatās a horrific result for Wexford - to argue otherwise is ridiculous.
Its a step down for reasonably recent winners of the All-Ireland, but its hardly surprising. You guys on here, and going back a good bit on AFR have been bemoaning the lack of talent and structures in Wexford. Iāve done the same about Cork to be honest, but we can bluff along due to the sheer amount of hurlers we have, whatever the talent level.
A couple of good Minor teams is better than none at all, which is what Wexford have had if my memory serves me correctly. The guys at the top probably should shoulder alot of the blame. Iām no John Myler fan, but the way they dealt with him was extremely poor.
Why? Wexford only have about six serious hurling clubs.
In fairness we fell to a low like this 12 months ago when we lost to Antrim but dug deep to drag our way back out of it.
Win the rest of our games and weāll be in the league final.
I look forward to beating Galway, getting trounced by Kilkenny and beating Cork with a last-minute goal before getting trounced by Kilkenny in an AI semi.
Itās tradition.
Was it 30 years ago? Tradition? Ha
You surely understand tradition. Like Cork people shooting each other in the back.
Any Clare lads reading this, how good was the team you put out against us last week? How far away would it be from your first choice championship starting 15?
Carlow hurling hasnt really improved from where it was say 10 Years ago,id have a fair knowledge of thier club set up and they arent too bad but they have no business beating a county with a hurling tradition like Wexfords,The Rackards will be turning in thier graves over this, the fault lies with Wexford County boards officers for letting football take hold to an extent that Hurling has been neglected at all levels,at the same time any inroads they made at the football are starting to subside leaving them with two poorly competitive teams at most levels.
I felt sorry for the Wexford mninor hurling manager when i was standing beside him at Good Counsel Colleges Leinster semi final v St Keirans around 6 Weeks ago, there wasnt a young fella on the pitch up to County standard and he told me the fellas in Peters were no better,a huge re think on policy needs to happen withing the Wexford GAA set up,we all need them back at the top level in hurling, its never going to happen for Carlow.
Great, this is what we have to look forward to for the rest of 2010 - 2011ā¦
Fair play to you Link.
Thats the thing though - why is it that Wexford are so dynsfunctional and a few miles way thereās a county so on top of their game and with such a seemingly good structure? Iāve just been making the point to KIB Man that Cody wouldnāt put up with any of this shit, and wouldnāt have to as he has a board who are totally behind him and give him the support he needs. Kilkenny hurlers are treated like gods but know theyāre only one game away from being dropped. They take nothing for granted.
Is it the football? Do we need to get rid of it? I honestly donāt see why. Weāve had a couple of years of relative success in football, but I donāt think in that time Wexford hurling has suffered. We were shit before Jason Ryan woke the footballers up.
this old nugget of football ruining Wexford hurling doesnt hold any sway at all. any clubs that concentrate on one code in the county generally dont do so in the other. a few exceptions to the rule, but the main hurling clubs for the last few years, Oulart, Rathnure, Martins, Buffers Alley, dont put any emphasis whatsoever on football. The majority of county players dont play the other code to any major extent.
this result was shit, no matter how you look at it or try dress it up. Granted, Carlow may be improving, but fook it their top club team only gets through to the Leinster intermediate championship. We beat them by nearly 30 points last year, an absolute hiding. They had one half decent minor side a couple of years back. complacency is our problem. as bad as Bonnar may be, the players in this case have to shoulder a lot of the blame. Maybe Bonnar didnt have them ready enough for the game, or had them going all out to win it, but fook me, youād expect your players to lift their game once they saw they werent having things their own way.
Oh and Fitzy, that last point of yours is so far off the mark there is no point in even discussing it with you.
Link, Wexford gaa people would be far more worried about the inroads soccer and rugby are making in the county
Anyone at either of the games yesterday that could post up a report? I heard the football was poor and as for the hurling, well the result speaks for itself
Go easy on Wexford!
