Nah Gav, Damien said himself he had lost the passion for it and heās honest enough not to assume he should automatically be there. I think he wuldnāt be able to live with himself if he did it now without the real passion he had. We shouldnāt really speculate about him, as heās made his decision, and Iāve rarely seen a sportsman with more integrity than Damien Fitzhenry (and that would go for all of his family).
So now is the time for us to forget about 1996. Its done now anyway. We need to look forward. From what I can see, weāre probably at a tipping point with Wexford hurling where we will finally see some progress.
Iāve seen Bonner in action at WRTC and Iād have confidence in him. Weāre at a low, thereās no doubt. But Iām hanging onto optimism, the defining qualification of any Wexford supporter.
Who am I to talk, Iām 14000kms away. Seriously lads, can someone give me a decent analysis of our prospects for this year?
The Wexford team to play Kildare in Wexford Park on Sunday next has been named. Paul Morris from the Ferns-St. Aidans club makes his league debut at corner forward in place of Jim Berry. Ritchie Kehoe and Rory Jacob also return as Wexford try to put behind them the defeat by Carlow last time out.
Wexford will be hoping to get back on track with a convincing win over Kildare but the Buffers Alley man, Paudie Reidy, who is a Kildare native, will be looking for the best from his team to keep Wexford at bay as the Lilywhites try to get their league back on song also.
Wexford (SH v Kildare): 1. Noel Carton, 2. Eoin Doyle, 3. Barry Kenny, 4. Paul Roche, 5. Ritchie Kehoe, 6. Darren Stamp, 7. CiarƔn Kenny, 8. Willie Doran, 9. Colm Farell, 10. Diarmuid Lyng, 11. Harry Kehoe, 12. Andrew Shore, 13. Rory Jacob, 14. Peter Atkinson, 15. Paul Morris.
Bandage youāll be happy to see Ritchie Kehoe is backā¦
Football team not been announced till tomorrow night
Ah proper order indeed. He rushed back from Carlow to play with the Harriers in the league on Sunday evening to get some hurling. I would have thought it would been obvious to bring him on when we were struggling. But Bonnar had other ideas.
I decided to go to Roscommon for the game today but I pretty much missed my lift due to unforeseen circumstances. Iāll toddle over to Wexford Park to watch the hurlers instead.
Ah lovely. A controversial late goal too - apparent pick up off the ground in the build up. Raging I didnāt go now. Itās great beating inbreds away from home. Loads and loads for the hurlers to work on. Main positive was Eoin Quigley returning to action.
