Wexford GAA 2010

The under 21’s championship is one of the very few I/C competitions that is straight knockout and should be left as such…

Wouldn’t worry. It won’t change I’d say.
Wexford wanting more games at Inter County level so and they always giving out about the impossible task they have setting club fixtures. They’re a funny lot.

Nice touch putting a plaque up alright Bandage. Any sign of this Rackard statue at all?

Just back from the Club hurling Semi-finals in Wexford Park. 2 poor games again.

In the first game, St. Martins v Buffers Alley, the Wexford district side had alively start and went 6-1 up in no time. Rory McCarthy was back for them too and started at wing forward. Gizzy Lyng came back from the US for the game but didn’t start-he came on with about 20 mins to go.

Alley looked very poor in the 1st half, slow and ponderous on the ball, and it took more effort for them to find scores. Martin’s went in 0-10 to 0-5 at half time.

Alley came out a different team in the 2nd half and Martin’s didn’t look to take the game to the Alley much at all. Pat Doran scored a goal to leave a point between the sides with 10 to go. Scores were traded but Alley couldn’t draw level even though Pat Doran had great a chance to level at the death from 40 out but blazed it wide and Martin’s progressed to the County massacre with a 0-16 to 1-12 win.

Oulart did their usual destruction job by easily putting away a spirited Ferns side on a 4-18 to 0-15 scoreline (3-09 to 0-8 HT). Ferns started off well and pretty much matched Oulart but as ever, when the Oulart forwards got a sniff of a goal they didn’t disappoint. Darren Nolan impressed again today, he has done for a while now I think. Ferns looked good on the day but it’s going to be hard to stop this Oulart team-a Leinster title or more wouldn’t surprise. Only thing is the standard in Wexford is so poor that maybe Oulart are deceiving t how good they are. We’ll wait and see.

A LIST OF WEXFORD TOWN BASED SENIOR FOOTBALL CLUBS

Sarsfields GFC

End of list

'Mon the fooking Sars. Another final, another momentous win. Last year it was Senior B; now we add the Relegation Final to our long history of glorious final victories.

So basically it’s the same list as it has been for the last 20 years or so then. No?

I’m registering my opposition and hatred against Clonard GAA club until at least 17:30 this Saturday evening

'Mon the Sars -

A goal on the break in the 5th minute of injury time to seal the 2-10 to 1-9 victory. My texts received in Glasgow last Saturday told me it was comfortable and never in doubt.

Club notes from The Wexford People:

SARSFIELDS

Congratulations to the Seniors who dug deep and showed great character in Piercestown on Saturday last to preserve the status which we have held since 1980 with a four-point win over Glynn-Barntown. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to our longest-serving player, Ciarán ‘Chicken’ O’Leary, the heartbeat of this team, who sustained a punctured lung and two broken ribs in pursuit of victory.

Along with the display on the field, it was heartening to see so many supporters in attendance, some of whom hadn’t been at a Senior game for some time. It clearly showed what it meant to everybody, and the relief and elation at the final whistle was palpable. Well done to the players and mentors Ger Halligan, Billy Dodd and Paul Harrington.

Kevin Gore should be on the Wexford team. Splendid also to defeat the ex-Sars’ players who fooked off to Glynn-Barntown. Match report:

Sars seal precious win as Glynn-Barntown make immediate drop

THE CHEERS from the Sarsfields contingent could be heard back in Wexford town on Saturday last when Warren Broaders scored a superb breakway goal nearly five minutes into added time to preserve the Senior football status which they have enjoyed since 1980 after a keenly-fought relegation final with Glynn-Barntown, who now make an immediate return to Intermediate ranks.

The Butters were clinging to a onepoint lead as the clock ticked past the 60th minute, with their rivals squandering two chances for a leveller as Mark Fanning sent a free wide before dropping a '45 short which was cleared by the outstanding Fran Cleary. GlynnBarntown pushed everyone forward in a last-ditch attempt to equalise but, when the move broke down, Sarsfields created an overlap which ended with the icecool Broaders lobbing advancing netminder Eunan Doyle for one of the most important goals in the club’s history.

Glynn-Barntown had opened brightly with points from former Sarsfields underage player Michael O’Regan and freetaker Fanning, but their rivals hit back in the sixth minute when Paul Murphy punished a footblock on Seán Ó Corcora with a coolly-taken penalty goal.

Kevin Gore added a point before Sarsfields lost their way, conceding 1-2 without reply as points from Craig Doyle and O’Regan were followed by a fine individual goal by Fanning in the 18th minute to establish a 1-4 to 1-1 lead.

A quickfire brace of Lee Walker points, the first from a free, narrowed the gap to the minimum, and Glynn-Barntown went on to lead by 1-5 to 1-4 at the break after an exchange of scores between Fanning (free) and Paul Murphy.

Impressive Glynn-Barntown substitute, Eoin Raftery, extended their lead on the re-start before Lee Walker had a goalscoring effort saved by the outstretched boot of Eunan Doyle at the other end.

The tension rose with never more than two points between them, although Sarsfields continued to chase the game. A Paul Murphy free left a one-point difference (1-6 to 1-5), but Paul Carley replied almost immediately.

And when Andrew Moore split the posts for Sarsfields, there was another response from Glynn-Barntown as Mark Fanning made it 1-8 to 1-6 entering the last quarter.

The town team kept chipping away despite hitting four wides in six minutes, and their persistence brought them level with points from Paul Murphy and Kevin Gore.

A scoreless spell of seven minutes was ended when Gore gave them the lead in the 56th minute, but Willie Carley levelled before Paul Murphy restored the Sars’ advantage with 90 seconds of normal time remaining.

Extra-time looked on the cards, and Glynn-Barntown certainly had their chances, but they were rocked by that late sucker punch before the final whistle brought contrasting emotions of joy and despair.

Clonard GAA Club - fuck off and die. :guns: :guns: :guns:

CLONARD

All roads lead to Wexford Park this weekend. On Saturday, October 2, at 3 p.m. our Junior footballers are in county final action against Davidstown-Courtnacuddy.

This team has represented the club with honour and distinction so far this year. Having already secured the ACFL title, they are now going in search of the league and championship double.

Having tasted defeat in the opening round of the championship to Rathgarogue-Cushinstown, the team responded magnificently to win their final two group games against Shelmaliers, thanks to a last-gasp Eoin Reardon goal, and Tara Rocks.

These victories set up a quarter-final encounter with Oyelgate which resulted in a two-point victory thanks to a strong finish, and then a semi-final win over last year’s beaten finalists, MonageerBoolavogue, meant promotion to the Intermediate ranks for next year and secured our place in Saturday’s final.

Having put in such a tremendous and admirable effort since last January, we wish the players and mentors all the vey best on what is sure to be a great day for the club.

We would also ask that as many supporters as possible make a special effort to attend the game and offer support and encouragement. We also ask parents of any young players in the club to bring them along to Wexford Park to enjoy the occasion. The very best of luck lads.

I never realised that Sars had a former Eurovision winner as selector…What a club

Hopefully porn star Greg Jacob will lead Davidstown to victory over Clonard on Saturday. Trouble is they’re already promoted with both finalists going up to Intermediate as part of overall championship restructuring. Imagine the shame of us playing Clonard in Intermediate - thank fuck for that win last Saturday.

So Gizzy Lyng came home for the hurling semi-final after missing most of the championship - I believe he’s gone back to America but the club will fly him home again next week for the final.

Senior football final this weekend. I’ll miss it as I’m away on business but it should be a decent tussle between two local rivals.

As exclusively reported by my good self. He only came on with 20 mins to go but still looked better than anyone out there.

Greg Jacob is a better footballer I reckon than a hurler anyway. Pity Mac never continued the football after Minor-although him hitting the crossbar in one match for them from 2 yards out, kicking the ball from his hands unmarked probably halted his future a bit. Robert Hassey still playing Mac?

Clonard cunts

Are you surprised that they’re tough? It’s Division 1 in the hurling, would expect to find most of the best teams in it. And they’re not draws either. Are you on drugs padjo?

I’d be looking at the Cork and Dublin home games as the bankers that will keep us in Division 1 for another year. Probably take the points in Birr too.

If anyone is at the County Final today I’d appreciate a few updates, can’t get the South East Radio stream working.

Castletown won by 0-12 to 0-9. That’s as much as I know, Brian.

I was talking about the fact that we had more away games than home games in both codes you fat headed clown and as for banking on us beating Cork

yeah they led from start to finish. got an early point and were always ahead. the much better team on the day, but nearly choked again at the death. Kilanerin hit the crossbar and the post going for goal in injury time. Forde was outmarked by a 19 year old lad too, he had a great game on Forde and made one unreal block in the second half.

Conor carty?
