Wexford GAA 2013

1-7 to 13. Meany of laois is lucky the ref didn’t see him hit Malone off the ball. We’ve hit 2 wides from frees and one from play just now

Back to division 3 we go. Fucking scutter

What’s happening gman?

Very disappointing indeed.

That was some pile of shite. No heart or fight or determination from a lot of players, which is most disappointing. We had a strange shape to our side, somewhat similar to Bandages explanation of the Louth game where we piled everyone back in the first half. But the tackling was so light, and marking was shocking. they kicked some very easy points. We gave away at least 4 points in the first half from really really stupid turnovers. Waddings the pick of the bunch, where he took the ball off Masterson, and instead of passing it, he tried go around his man and lost the ball. Waters again was good, has been by far the stand out player so far this year. Chin was decent today too.

But Laois were shite too, which says how bad we were. They were only in second gear, and it was there to be won for us if there was a bit more determination and drive in our play. Far too often a forward would make a run, and instead of getting a long ball into space, we’d solo, turn back, and handpass backwards. Absolutely infuriating to watch.

To compound the misery of it all, after our free taker was substituted, 4 different players missed 5 scorable frees. It was a shocking performance all round, and had we played any way well at all, we’d be staying up. But if we cant beat a very average Laois side at home in a crunch game, then we dont deserve to be there. Fucking division 3 shit again. sick of all those cunts of sides.

I thought Chin was dirt.

Begley lorded it over him and consistently had time to pick our defence depart. Chin was neither marking him or space.

I’d agree with everything else youve said.

Some idiots thought they were in foxboro, proudly wearing their New England Patriots regalia…wrong.

At least it wasn’t an Aussie rules top

Yeah Begley was good alright I suppose, just thought Chin was decent enough on the ball and he broke down a few of their attacks.

I’m sure whoever it was in their Patriots jacket was nice and warm though. It was fucking freezing there today. That joke of a wind needs to be sorted out in Wexford Park.

One glaring example of chins ineptitude was in the first have having recovered a ball he broke down the wing under the stand, lyng was 50 yards up the field screaming for the ball, but no ball came chin decided to continue to solo the ball and then try hand pass it…we eventually coughed up possession.

He wasn’t the only one guilty of this however as most players seemed to be afraid to kick the ball.

The form the team is showing does not augur well for the summer months.

yeah that was terrible alright, but as you say, certainly not the only one guilty of it, as it seemed a common theme all day long, and to be honest, I bet if you read back on our loss to Tipp, or the loss to Limerick, you’ll find us complaining about the very same thing. We still do stupid sideways running and backwards passing, when long ball options, and not even complicated pin point passing, but long kicks into space are on, but we dont avail of it.

Bar the first 40 minutes of the Westmeath game, the rest of their home games have been pretty poor. Its not a good sign alright.

Minors out in first round next Sat away to westmeath.

This is quite a blow really. As mentioned on the main league thread, it’s noticeable that the best performing championship teams are coming from the top tier(s) in recent years. It would have beneficial to the development of the team to be playing the likes of Donegal and Armagh next Winter/Spring but we can’t complain having lost our last 3 games. The only factor outside our control was the incorrect sending off of Daithi Waters against Westmeath when we were 4 points up and outplaying them. Aside from that, we haven’t played well enough to be honest - we’ve been patchy and haven’t put concerted spells of good football together for entire games other than in Drogheda. Losing the 11-point lead in Armagh turned out to be crucial in the end unfortunately. Daithi Waters has had a great league campaign but some of our other better players need to regain their best form between now and the championship.

On the plus side, you get to pay a visit to the majestic mid west, mate.

Chaps, anything in the local papers this week post conclusion of the league about squad additions, injuries etc in either senior camp?

Mixed news for hurlers ahead of championship opener
WEXFORD HAVE mixed news surrounding two of their injured hurlers as preparations for their championship opener with Dublin are stepped up.
Two of their attackers are fighting against time to be available for the game, with Diarmuid ‘Gizzy’ Lyng now having a realistic chance of becoming available having missed the entire league campaign owing to a viral infection. However, it now seems like the up-and-coming Liam Og McGovern will fail in his bid to prove his fitness.
Wexford are hoping that treatment in Australia will help Lyng to end his nightmare and make him available for the Leinster Senior hurling championship quarter-final showdown with Dublin at Wexford Park on Saturday evening, June 8.
The long-serving forward has been unable to participate in the National League campaign, with his last game coming in the championship qualifier with Cork in Semple Stadium last July. He featured in the half-forward line and bagged 1-3 of his side’s 2-17 total, but they still finished well adrift of the Rebel county.
‘Gizzy has gone to Australia and he’s getting treatment for his viral problem while he’s over there,’ said team manager, Liam Dunne.
Lyng took a break from hurling in 2011 to travel around the world, only coming back into the inter-county fold for the 2012 campaign.
‘Hopefully he’ll get it sorted out in Australia and he’ll then be in a position to get back training with us in a short time after he returns home,’ Dunne added. ‘And all going well ‘Gizzy’ will be available for our championship opener with Dublin.’
The news regarding McGovern is not so positive, with the player ending any speculation that he may be available for the game. The young St. Anne’s man had an operation on both hips in February and is in recovery mode at present.
However, he does not see himself being available for this year’s inter-county scene. ‘I had both hips operated on in February. At present the plan is to see a specialist for a second opinion. That’s where it stands at the moment,’ he said.
‘It’s probably unlikely that I’ll be around for the inter-county scene this year. I will give it another few weeks before I finally make up my mind, but I am hopeful more than confident. Realistically I’ve spoken with players from Wexford and outside the county and it takes three and a half months following the operation to recuperate.
‘At inter-county level there’s no short cuts. That would bring me up to May. I would have missed five months of intensive physical training and hurling. It’s not realistic to believe that I could step back in at that stage given the fitness levels and competitive nature of the game now.
‘I would have had to have put in the hours and I would be nowhere near that. I thought it could be done when coming back for Under-21 last year, having been in Canada studying, but quickly found out it’s not possible.
‘I have not considered travelling. My aim is to be back for the latter end of the club championship,’ McGovern explained.
With Keith Rossiter battling to overcome a hamstring injury, manager Dunne will be hoping that his players come through the opening rounds of the club championship injury-free.

8 weeks til the footballers are out v. Louth or Laois.

Just reading the full reports from the Laois game and I see that they pushed a defender (Pádraig McMahon) forward to play on Red Barry when we set out with the same tactics we used in previous games of using Red as a sweeper in the first half when playing against the elements. McMahon seemed to cause a lot of damage and scored 0-3 from play.

Indeed. I cant recall if he was no 5 or 7 but a lot of damage was done, we are no good at putting pressure on the ball out the field, it hangs out the defence.

Brian malone played corner back for Leinster yet we use him as a wing back,…neither of our wing backs want to kick the ball…

all our forwards runs are away from goal…

Lots of issues to sort out not much time to do it…

McMahon would have been 7. McNulty rode him roughshod all year, he only got 3 league games, was brought on v Dublin last year in the All Ireland Quarter Final and taken off again. McNulty has something odd against him but he’s a fantastic player.

PJ seemed to be picking up McMahon, or was supposed to be anyway. He tore forward at the resumption of the second half and left PJ well behind him anyway. As much as McMahon pushed on to Red, he was left do so unmarked from our forwards end.

Yeah I agree Gman.

Lack of communication between our forwards was terrible…for tracking back purposes that is. Ben simply cannot tackle as evidenced by his flying neck challenge on Sunday last.

We are not a big team, but we are quick and can play ball, we need to play to these strengths…
