Wexford GAA 2014

Fair enough they play in mid kerry championship. Anyone i know from down there when asked where they are from says south kerry.

St James’s Ramsgrange now boast the Wexford senior hurling and football captains. :eek:

Hurling team named:
Fanning;
Rossiter, O’Hanlon, B Kenny;
R Kehoe, Chin, C Kenny;
O’Keeffe, Shore;
Tomkins, Guiney, Byrne;
Morris, Clarke, McGovern.

Was Matt named captain for the year?

Not sure if for the year but definitely for Sunday.

No shock with the captaincy, St. James’ is a bastion of authority.

That’s a very inexperienced Wexford team, isn’t it chaps? We have the lengthy injury list as mentioned earlier in the week but this will be a stern test of our young team. We’ve lost a few games away to Antrim in recent years and they matched us for large spells of the qualifier game in Wexford Park last summer too. But it’s time for Wexford to start delivering on their potential now and we need to win this match.

Inexperienced alright, but the old adage “if theyre old enough theyre good enough” anyway better to blood these young lad now.

After our U21 title last year I posted a team up here roughly based around the bones of what Dunne has picked for Sunday so I think its good. We can’t expect to get promoted on the field and subsequently relegated at congress if we don’t blood some new players.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s a bad thing that we’ll have a young side. It’s just that injuries mean we’re lacking an experienced backbone, especially in the forwards. Do we have enough players to graft and win the “dirty” ball? We’re vulnerable enough, I reckon.

I always prefer bedding in one or two players at a time into an otherwise fairly settled side but we don’t really have that option. That said, Antrim probably think they’d beat us either way. It’ll be a good test for Wexford alright.

But to contradict my above point, a lot of these young players have already played senior championship for Wexford and are back into the squad after a year out / injury etc and there’s only 2 or 3 that will be making their NHL debuts. It’s a very “new” looking lineup though and these returning players aren’t established intercounty performers either.

How did Lehane get on tonight?

He scored 2 points and went off injured.

Despite dominating Leinster football for the past 10 years (along with Dublin), Luke Dempsey believes that no Wexford player is good enough to make the Railway Cup squad for today’s game. Daithi Waters and Graeme Molloy are the best players in their position in the country ffs sake. Kilkenny and Carlow are the only other counties in the province with no representation.

They must be injured pal.

Get this verified, mate. I’ll withdraw my criticism of Luke Dempsey if you confirm it.

There’s lads from Kildare on the panel who’ve never played championship football.

7 from Meath too.

Playing with your province is the pinnacle in GAA after winning college honours.

I’m seething about this.

6-5 down at ht. Played against strong breeze. R Kehoe straight red card late in half. Points by Morris (2), McGovern, Guiney (f) and O’Keeffe.

McGrath got carpeted for not sending Canning off last week so we didn’t need to give him any reason to dish out a red. Didn’t see it myself - off the ball tangle with Neil McManus.

Think we need Jacob and Moore on upfront but Harry Kehoe seems to be coming on now.

Daithi is carrying a knock.

Molloy didn’t make himself available, due to an on going injury issue

I think a few others were called too but also declined due to similar issues.

@Appendage verification complete.

We’re going to win some big honours very soon. :clap:

Wexford and Laois top 1B after round one.

Did you travel up to do it?

Yeah, to paraphrase @dodgy-keeper…I’m just back from Ballycastle.

Hurled well from about the 20th minute to the 65th to go from 0-5 to 0-2 down to 0-15 to 0-8 in front.

A strange finish though. They didn’t really come with a massive surge or anything. A bit of sloppiness and a free or two conceded and it was 0-15 to 0-11 and then they got the goal too and had another chance to level it.

I’ll post more later if anyone cares but it was an important win.
