HT: Laois 0-16 Wexford 2-4.
Two opportunistic goals by Stephen OâGorman (Taghmon-Camross) have kept Wexford somewhat in touch playing against quite a gale in the first half. Pretty disappointing despite the elements being against us - a lack of nous and slow to tweak things positionally while Laois were racking up a shit load of scores. Their #10 Stephen Phelan has scored a few outrageously good points.
1 point in the second half, nuff said. Hard to beat a team that is that much bigger better and stronger though as @Gman would appreciate.

Not sure whats worse, the Laois defending for the 2nd goal or the overuse of the word possession in the first 5 seconds
The full back for both of them :o
It looks bad alright, although Iâd say he was following the natural flight of the ball and the wind just killed it for the first one.
+1 for the first goal.
Wexford got level with plenty of time left with the gale behind them but didnât go on and win convincingly.
They deserve credit for coming from 9 behind to win and itâs only the first round but theyâll need to improve massively to make any impression against Dublin or Kilkenny.

Poor and poorer
As I was saying earlier, I was disappointed with Wexfordâs hurling today. We didnât play the conditions well in the first half.
Do we actually simulate these things in training? Develop a formation/system to play against a strong wind etc? All Ireland senior winning manager Davy Fitzgerald has 6 or 7 different systems with his Clare team.
The wind was so strong that the ball needed to be worked up the field systematically. Short, sharp stick passes, using the flanks, support play and handpasses. But it seemed to be a case of going out and hurling. We didnât look very structured and lacked direction. I didnât see much savvy or game management. We donât seem to be able to think on our feet like the best teams.
I know hurling was traditionally free flowing and off the cuff but the best teams these days have defined styles and patterns of play. Our forward play wasnât slick (is it ever in Wexford?) and we donât seem to be able to create space and combine upfront to the extent necessary.
The best thing about Wexford today was persistence but I shouldnât be too critical because 1) they won and 2) theyâre children.
Good work yesterday, a very enjoyable listen. Hope you go places at it.

Weâre Leinster League champions or something. We should be red hot favourites.
And it was the wing back rather than full back who got mugged off for the second goal.
That sars game today was some muck @Bandage. 1-2, with the goal from a penalty with last kick of the game. I imagine they are missing a good few with north end in soccer comps still? Even so. Fethard should have won by a lot more. Your keeper made a few good saves in fairness to him.
Lot more bite in the Horeswood Jimmieâs game. Horeswood winning by 3 points.
Wexford GAA twitter feed up to date with the club results as usual. FFS. But we are at HOME to Kilkenny in the minor on 25 April.
I think the game was live on internet radio yesterday too. Or so the 7 tweets about it said.
Castletown 1-6 stars 2-7
Fethard 1-9 sars 1-2
Anneâs 0-9 Fintans 1-3
Gusserane 1-12 Martinâs 1-10
Horeswood 1-14 St Jamesâs 1-11
Shels 4-13 Adamstown 0-3
The Anneâs Fintans highlights are on Facebook.

The Sars are missing a good few alright and will be for at least the next game. Is there 3 rounds being played before the 4-month pause for inter-county competitions? If so, theyâll be missing them for the next two matches. North End are in the FAI Junior Cup semi-final and theyâre also in the Wexford Cup final.
Yeah 3 rounds being played alright, and north end have a load of games in hand in the league too, so expect to see sars stuck in a relegation battle this year. And if the games drag out into October you could have the same issue then too of missing players
Graeme Molloy ruled out for the season according to The Wexford People:

Brendan Furlong continues his bizarre use of the word âforâ in the opening sentence of the article.
Is it true that the Wexford minor hurlers were put into the Leinster league by âaccidentâ and the Dublin team they beat was only Dublinâs u17 team ?
