Iād hope so too. The only thing is, a lot of plans were put in place for the underage squads and football related stuff about 5 years ago, and nothing was brought on. there was little or no input from coaches or, as people like to call them, the grass roots. A lot of stuff was put together with the aim of bringing more structure to it, more club involvement, and more incentives for players to join up with squads and commit to them. But it just never got any support and was pretty much just left to run its own course. Hopefully the support from the county board, the coaching office and the grass roots will help make sure that the next wave of trying to make the changes will actually be sustained this time, and that people will get behind it rather than knock it from afar.
the turnover of coaches who were involved in squads is absolutely shocking, and that in itself gives an indication of the frustration people have with the set up. Wexford also has a strange set up in that with most other counties, former intercounty players get involved with the squads from U14 up, and youād regularly see many of these being minor managers or selectors (eg Paddy Christie being over the Dublin minors with Mickey Whelan and Ian Robertson) but Wexford has minimal or none at all with underage squads and its only partially at minor or U21 that they might throw a hand at.
Whatās the score in Newbrdige @Bandage? Wesford GAA twitter seems to have taken the criticism of Masterson and some other footballer to heart and have decided to ignore hurling now too.
24pts to 14pts Conor Mac is flying, 8 pts from play and also scored 4 frees. Unreal in the air, kildare had 2 men on him but he still managed to catch ballā¦ A joy to watch.
Paudie Foley played half forward in the first half but didnāt look comfortable there. They moved him to 6 in 2nd half and himself and Jack OāConnor cleaned up.
I think we will seriously struggle for scores at this grade this year. Our forwards are not as good, Peter Sutton and Kevin Foley did OK in 2nd half and scored 2pts each but if Conor Mac gets held we might struggle.
James Cash came on half forward and got a point, I think heād be worth a start. In general backs and midfield did well. Half forward line struggled in first half but improved in 2nd with a few changes.
Kildare were game enough and played the whole 60mins with an extra defender. There freetaker Keegan was very good. Hopefully they stay in the A championship they need to be regularly competing at this level to improve.
OāLeary saved a penalty in 2nd half, it was the 1st 1 v1 Iāve seen. All in all plenty to improve on but at least we are up and running with a semi v Offaly in 3 weeks to look forward to.

Thanks for the report, pal. Iāve since spoken to a couple of people who were at the game and they mentioned McDonald and Jack OāConnor as the stand out performers too, along with Liam Ryan having a solid game at full back.
OāConnor was floating around the senior squad last year and was definitely on the extended panel during the championship. He impressed in the Leinster winning campaign for the U21s but his form tailed off somewhat in the last two games, struggling on Breheny/Brehony against Galway in particular. Thereās still places up for grabs between 5 and 12 on the senior team so he could push himself into contention here if heās improving again.
Overall, it looks like another strong U21 team with plenty of senior experience in it.
Jack OāConnor is one to watch alright, just hope he keeps improving. Any word on senior team? Heard they were playing tipp in a challenge during the week, anybody know how it went. I do know they are out this Saturday v Waterford in a challenge.
Canāt find appropriate Wexford people thread.
Just leaving Wexford chaps. Where are the nicest chips on the road between here and Portlaoise?
It was the b team Dunne put out and probably a good decision tooā¦ the game v Waterford was well advertised and Iām sure Ryan and Cody would have been there. No need to show our hand in a worthless challenge match.
What do people think the team will be on Sunday? Any surprises? Will the 2 waters play? I hear Byrne is injured.

Wexford, mainly despite playing against the conditions, were asking questions of the opposition in the early stages, but after some near misses in the first few minutes, were rocked by the concession of a goal, which put them on the back foot despite their positive opening.
