Wexford GAA 2017 - Gorey Gorey, the Messiah is still here!

Relax, guys. Davy is staying. I’ll take a 6-hour forum sabbatical if he goes.

The Wexford County Board are believed to be facing a probe into allegations that a suspended player lined out in an inter-county hurling tournament.

In this week’s edition of the Wexford People, a story is carried claiming that the player lined out in a number of games, even though he had been sent off in an earlier game.

An investigation into the incident is believed to be underway and there could be repercussions for the player and the county board if found guilty.

The player in question could face a lengthy suspension, while the county board could be hit with a substantial fine.

This is a weird story. The implication seems to be that mentors* knowingly played the young chap in subsequent games after being sent off in a previous one. I wonder if they got him to wear a wig or false moustache or, more likely, made him swap to a different colour helmet (the way Clonard GAA Club did with Gizzy Lyng several times during individual matches in the feisty U12 and U14 Wexford town derbies in the 1990s).

Aside from Brendan’s story in The Wexford People yesterday, the disciplinary case was confirmed in the Wexford GAA county board and/or management committee meeting minutes which they released the other day.

*great GAA word, up there with patrons.

Was this is a weekend Tony Forrestial type tournament?
The player was sent off in an early game, but still lined out in the following games that weekend?

Exactly. It’s one of those competitions alright. Tony Forristal or that U16 one or something else.

Those mentors should be jailed.

Thats ridiculous. To think you’d get away with that shit, not to mention to think it was worth even trying. Thats the last they’ll see of intercounty management.

It’s amazing that the other teams didn’t cop it on the day and kick up

They might not have been aware of it?
If they were moving between venues etc.

Possibly…Generally all the group games are in the one venue

Allegedly, this is what happened in a certain under age hurling blitz. Good player sent off in game, brother was a sub, switched jerseys with brother and sent back onto play by management. Played using brothers jersey for remainder of tournament. The two lad’s father not too happy by all accounts… that’s the rumour anyway.

Would the father be a strong GAA man?

That’s gas :grinning:

Like the day the teacher was handing out jersies before a final. Realised he was a jersey short for one of the lads starting. Turned to one of the subs “Gerry, give john your jersey, you won’t be needing it anyways”,

To be honest I don’t know @Mac, didn’t hear any names mentioned

wasnt a brother. I know the full story of it. Mentor doesnt seem fazed at all. The rumour you have there doesnt make it sound as bad as what actually did happen, albeit you do have some of the things correct.

I only heard it third hand  give us your ‘alleged’ version

I’m assuming the parents of the lad who was told give him the jersey kicked up.
I made a similar point recently when we were discussing illegal players. You wouldn’t get away with it anymore because the parents of the lad who misses out for the illegal player would kick up.

Looking forward to @Gman 's exclusive here.

Keep it in house for the moment as names should not be made known. lots of people snoop in this place.

Pm me and bandage then ffs

The mind boggles at the stupidity of some people.
