Next appointment is huge. Needs a boost and energy back into it. McLoughlin just wasn’t up to it at all and all the fears before his appointment unfortunately rang true. Lots of excuses, but ultimately, it was all on him.
The options on the table were not great and it says enough that McLoughlin was the best candidate for the job at the time. There was no cost saving either involved, the other candidates would have had the same costs as McLoughlin. Hindsight would say that maybe another candidate wouldn’t have done any worse, but wouldn’t have been long term solutions either.
A lot of promises and support roles were left unfulfilled by McLoughlin which is the worst thing really. Very inexperienced line and back room. And lots of blame spread around.
Mentioned this before but the county board in announcing his appointment said that an experienced and impressive backroom would be announced in due course. It never materialised but the fact they raised it in the actual appointment statement was in itself a statement. It was essentially saying…we acknowledge this guy is a gamble and doesn’t have much of a track record but trust us as there’ll be a strong support team with him.
It’s a shambles wherever the truth lies. They shouldn’t have appointed him without being certain he had a proper backroom team in place. And he shouldn’t have bullshitted them about having one lined up if he had no expertise to call on.
