If I were you Iād abandon the footballers entirely. When youāre unable to kick seven shades of shite out of Sligo at home you know the game is up. Sligo are woeful.
Galvin outā¦
there used to be a great clip of Nicky flattening Ciaran Whelan on youtube, whatever happened to Rory Mallon? seemed to disappear off the scene fairly early
My sketchy memory thinks he moved to the US or went to play in the US.
Lambert flattened Whelan around 2005 or 2006 I think. When himself and Fogie played Whelo and Ryan off the park. Red scored the goal in front of the hill from the saved pelanty
Jack O Connor was a stand out for me. Got some impressive scores and just really led the team. Rory and O Keefe too were good in spells, when under no pressure it was hard to gauge how hard they really had to push themselves. Conor Mac showed well too, starting to act as a senior type player with incoming players around him. Bias fully loaded, but Mikey Dwyer did well with limited possession. Got a nice point and is very good at getting the ball and laying it off to an inrushing player. Morris had a nice time coming on, man up and he was pretty much left unmarked. Got a few nice points. Connal Flood had a good game too, showed a really good turn of pace to get up for a well taken point.
The one thing, I canāt see a place for Matt O Hanlon on the team. I donāt see the half back line changing from Murphy, Foley and D.Reck. nothing Iāve seen from him says he is ousting anyone there. I donāt see Aidan Nolan or Cathal Dunbar getting starting spots either. Forgot at times Nolan was out there and Dunbar again missed a handy one on one as well.
Chin didnāt tog out at all, Seamus Casey took his place on the squad. Rory limped off too, so hopefully both not serious injuries.
Iād be very surprised if none of that starting 6 donāt suffer some kind of injury or knock during the round robin. No harm to have MOH to rotate in for some games too.
In fairness, Davy has done a great job of blooding some new players in the league this year. Joe OāConnor and Aidan Rochford as the call out examples. The lack of a bench undid us a lot against Tipp last year so good to see some progression.
Big is slower too. I just think the way we attack with the half backs, Murphy and Reck give more. However, a talk half forward would love to mark either alright.
I reckon itās too early to rule him out, as heās not long back after injury. Think he got a separate injury around Christmas / new year after overcoming the medial knee ligament injury he sustained in the semi last year. He looked rusty in his 35 minutes last weekend alright. Davy has used him as a specialist marker at times too rather than as a half back with freedom to attack. He was corner back on Jason Forde last July, for example. Plus heās joint captain, a leader, a Davy favourite and attended his nuptials. OāHanlon is a nailed on championship starter, if fit, imnvho.
I just feel one of Joe OConnor or Simon Donohue will be dropped for the championship to accommodate MOH in the halfback line with Damien Reck going corner back. Reasons are what Bandage said above MOH is a specialist marker come championship.
I think the last few bits are more key, captain and mainstay of previous years. On playing form, I donāt see him starting. On reputation and other factors, he does. I think the team is quicker and from an attacking perspective better without him, but may be more vulnerable defensively
