Yeah I realised you meant club after I posted. Dunne played on for a good few years alright. Wasnāt much of a gap between his retirement and management.
They actually beat Cuala to win a Leinster title. That Cuala team in hindsight was a lot better than the teams that beat them in finals.
- I donāt think Con was on that losing Cuala team.
Con was playing and scored a few points alright that day.
That Cuala team they beat was probably the best team they ever met in Leinster Iād say.
I donāt think Oulart lost to Ballyhale much in Leinster over the years. They actually beat Ballyhale one year.
Birr and James Stephens won a few in that time frame. OLG also. Ballyhale the rest
Cuala were terrible that day. Tried to play a style of hurling as if it was the middle of summer and no accounting for the huge wind blowing. David Treacy twice tried to flick the ball from the slow wet pitch into his hand rather than putting his body over the ball and rising it in the opening ten minutes and from that point i knew it was Oularts day.
I believe a few of us here were on Oulart at around 11/4 or bigger from what I remember.
Redmond would be 32 or 33? Youād think heād still be playing.
Heās around 35 Iād say now. Think he had an ongoing hip problem he couldnāt get right. Heās coaching one of the county underage teams now. Will apparently make a brilliant coach
Ferns 0-11 Faythe Harriers 1-3. HT.
A tactical affair to put it kindly. The Harriers havenāt had many chances and not a lot of bodies in the Ferns half. Ferns are more seasoned and have more strength in depth around the field. A great goal by Glen Murphy Butler created by a barnstorming Chin run through the middle from midfield and lay off, but the Harriers have struggled overall.
Faythe Harriers 2-11 Ferns 0-16. FT.
Yeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssss.
Moving Chinner to full forward and bombing balls in changed the game.
Josh Shiel from play and Chin with a free from midfield put the Harriers two ahead at the death before a late Paul Morris consolation point.
Ferns led by 0-15 to 1-9 after scoring three on the trot before the ref changed the game. Penalised a Ferns back for a throw when it was a clear hand pass and then moved the ball to the 21 for dissent. Chin buried the free to level it.
A touch smash and grab alright, but a tremendous win. Richie Kehoe delivered a Tour de France from centre back when the game was in the melting pot.
Davy Fitz was great on co commentary.
Thatās a pretty big shock, fair dues to the harriers
Some turnaround in the offing in Wexford Park. Gorey were 5 points up at half time. Rapps now lead by 3 with 10 mins left. Gorey only scored a single point in second half.
Presume the joke of a wind is playing a blinder cc @Gman
Drama as a last minute Conor Mac pelanty wins it for Gorey at the death. Rapps out now I think. Kevin Foley will be good and fresh for the county team.
Gusserane must have had that wind too, they led our ladies island 2-15 to no score after 30 mins, Gusserane had a man sent off and OLI got a point just on the half time whistle. No second half comeback tho
This is a trademark Rory OāConnor point. Sheer class.
Ferns beat Fethard by 3 so are through to the next round. Fethard need to beat the Harriers by 2 points to knock them out and go through with ferns. Fethard had enough chances to win tonight, missed 3 handy frees and also with two long range frees wasted them and ferns scored on the break with them both.
Senior hurling summary,
Group A
St Martins 0-23 Cloughbawn 0-15
St Martins through as group winners with two wins from two. Cloughbawn v Oulart next weekend to see who joins them.
Group B
Ferns 0-21 Fethard 1-15
Iām happy to go with @Gman ās permutations above.
Group C
St Annes 2-17 Glynn-Barntown 1-19
St Annes through as per Group A. Glynn-Barntown v Rathnure next weekend to see who joins them.
Group D
Naomh Eanna Gorey 2-11 Rapparees 0-16
Rapps out after two losses. Gorey v the Shels next week to determine who goes through as group winners and runners up.
Surely thereās a scenario that could see ferns knocked out?
No. Their scoring difference will be better than either Fethard or the Harriers no matter what way the result goes.
Same as If Annes lost by one theyād have been through as either Rathnure or Glynn could have bettered it but not both.
In a 3 team group, surely head to head is a better method than scoring difference? Likely easier to have a high scoring game in Belfield than in Wexford Park
