It’s plain to see he has to go.
I should also add i feel genuinely sorry for Darragh Egan. Ultimately it was his team that capitulated like that and he needs to shoulder that blame. But fuck me its hard to blame a manager and not players who lose in that manner. The clowns online (and in whatsapp groups cc @Bandage ) calling for the co board to resign really annoy me. Its like there is some better chairman standing in the wings to save us. And when the say co board, do they mean the secretary, treasuer et al too? Like that the whole co board set up should resign? Idiots.
A downing of tools of epic proportions.
Remember when Carlow beat us in minor a good few years back? Remember the U21 semi final vs Antrim? They seem like respectable results in comparison to today.
But we did similar against Antrim. Well comfortable and let them come back into it towards the end. The warnings were there.
There was a lovely bang of Roddy Doyle off some of that.
When conor mac got the second goal, you could sense the pedestrian pace take over. Lots of slow runs, lofty passes, little chasing back. A sense of job done, we’ll tip away to the final whistle now. Id love to say that it was a turn in the Westmeath play or that they started some strange formation that bamboozled us, but it was as simple a case of not bothering their holes for 40 minutes and trying to get goals for no real reason. A complete lack of respect too you have to say.
Very much reminded me of that. A game we should have hammered them in too but fell over the line. That day however seemed to have an importance placed on point shooting. Today seemed like goals were what was to be targetted.
We lost to Kildare in u20 2 years ago too…
Waterford almost threw away a 16 point lead against Galway in the 2021 qualifiers but steadied the ship and won by about 4 in the end. Same with Kilkenny against Dublin in the Covid championship of 2020.
I don’t think things are as bad as they’ll be portrayed in the next few days. Small margins and Wexford could have won the two most recent Leinster U20 championships. There are some decent players coming along.
The bit about Conor Hearne’s wide was tremendous.
Sure I don’t know. I found the match boring and was watching Clare cork and then Limerick Tipp.
Must go and read the Facebook / Twitter commentary.
Unless I’m mistaken, Wexford GGA official account strategically haven’t bothered to post the full time score with their usual stats graphic on bookface.
Only on Twitter.
Hurlings finished in Wexford.
Once you brought in that club championship you could forget about it.
On the county board, i do think there needs to be a review of underage coaching and development squads. Its been ramed down our throats all the work thats going into underage and we are heading in the right direction etc but the results at underage doesnt suggest we are. It needs to be reviewed and improved.
The county board are more interested in the commercial side of it these days. They are more interested in light shows and fireworks.
If results like today’s persist then we might need a new fast food partner. Sharkey’s won’t want to be associated with a shit show like that.
Same as your rubby team pal, 17 point lead
They love stats and numbers and how many sessions they do. Hard to know how to measure quality of the coaching, which really should be then main thing.
What I do see is a lot of nodding dogs at coaching courses and then when the coaches get back to the kids it’s back to the same tried and trusted shite that never worked and never will.
I thought the embarrassment was that Wexford lost to Westmeath simpliciter. I’ve just found out that Wexford were ahead by 17 points at half time. All credit to Westmeath and to the Wexford lads as well, for as Tom Dempsey pointed out, they invest a lot in it for love of their hobby and county. How in the name of God can Wexford contrive to lose a 17 point half time lead to Westmeath? GAA players are above reproach but if that was any other sport, that would be looked at long and hard by outside forces. @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy will have a field day if he gets wind of this result.
