In fairness it took the Clare players 5 years to recover after Davy.
When Wexford had their dominant eras in the 1950’s and 1960’s, there was a strong presence from the big towns in the county, St Aidans in the 1950’s, to a lesser extent in the 1960’s but complimented by Geraldine O’Hanrahans and Faythe Harriers. Wexford since then have largely relied on players from rural clubs. With the changing demographics of rural depopulation hitting clubs that have dominated like Rathnure, Buffers Alley and Oulart, it all gets quite muddled.
Ah i think you’re over egging it.
Those teams had a wide enough spread of clubs.
Off the top of my head ‘68 had lads from Oilgate, martins, harriers, Cloughbawn (Quigley), Boolavogue (Doran), Ferns, Anne’s, Harriers, Shamrocks, Ross.
Near enough same spread as currently.
The 50s were backboned by the Rackards, Nicko a KK man and Wheeler a Laoisman.
Paddy Kehoe was Gusserane and Dom Hearne Horeswood.
Jim Morrissey was Taghmon. Sure twas all over the place.
Best thing could happen for Joe Fortune is Westmeath getting bet by Antrim. Wexford stay up, he walks into Wexford job in Liam McCarthy…
… But don’t think he’d want to manage under Micheal Martin, unless they patch things up.
We go down it’s not a thing of just going back up, see Offaly.
Sf Aidans won 7 out of 8 Wexford Senior Hurling Championships between 1952-59 and provided Art Foley, Nick O’Donnell, Padge Kehoe, Tom Ryan, Tom Dixon to the 1955 and 1956 All Ireland winning teams.
Rathnure and St Aidans both had 5 starters each on the 1956 All Ireland winning team. Not quite as all over the place as you claimed.
Did the team empty themselves under Davy a la Clare 2013? Is this what’s happened or is that unfair?
I don’t think it’s so much that as opposed to them only trusting Davyball.
This is not what I wanted to wake up to on a Monday morning. Fucking hell
Is there a relegation final in Leinster?
Don’t think so
So if Antrim win and Kilkenny win, Westmeath will have Wexford on head to head?
Yup
That’d be funny
Your heart wouldn’t go out to them.
Sure lookit theh love their hurling below in Wexford and do great work down there
That was a semi final or group game. Galway hammered us in the final that doubled up as the first league game
Fuck, you’re right.
It’s been a long, condensed, short, spilt season.
Be great to have Laois, Offaly and Wexford in the McDonagh next year.
