Wexford GAA 2024

Ironically Joe Hagan, mentioned upthread, was Na Fianna’s infamous sixth sub that day against Sarsfields. He came on in the 61st minute when Na Fianna were 12 points up and may not have actually touched the ball. Also, there was no indication that Na Fianna had 16 men on the pitch at any stage but Sarsfields got a replay irrespective.

Wattys wanted the right thing done but were met with a lawyered up Crokes and said ‘Fuck that’ and walked, only to return victorious the following year.

Crossabeg-Ballymurn and Gusserane join Castletown and Glynn-Barntown in the senior semi-finals tonight.

Fethard beat Adamstown and St Fintan’s ousted Cushinstown tonight. St Fintan’s have improved massively this year after years of just about staving off relegation. I think they’ve been without Donal Shanley too?

Yeah he’s still in Australia but they got Jim Rossiter and Shane Pettit back from foreign shores this year, Philly Cullen from the Sars is in as either coach or manager.

Good Counsel team from 2001 Leinster hurling final would probably interest a few here. A few big hitters on that Dublin schools team.

Was at that game. Keaney was like a 25 year old, head and shoulders above everyone. Close enough game iirc.
Very few of the counsel team went on to play at a very high level bar mark phelan and Willie Dwyer. Barden of bannow and Richie Gaule of tullogher were excellent hurlers, but they emigrated a few years after that.

Liam Tierney was keeper for a good few Kilkenny underage teams. Tomas Frisby on the subs as well, was it him that was on the receiving end of that incident with John Mullane?

Yes think Tierney played in goal in 2004 minor all ireland. Galway beat kk in a replay, Joe canning was playing as a 15 or 16 year old.
Yeah think it was frisby was the slap off Mullane.

3rd mishap with the lights and there up less than 2 years, not good enough tbh esp considering the cost involved.

Debacle in Bellefield too. Fethard and Bunclody drew 2.17 to 1.20 (Bunclody with 16 frees of their 17 points). Fethard got 8 points in extra time, Bunclody got 1.4. The scoreboard gave Bunclody one of Fethards points, but when correcting it, took it back off Bunclody, but didnt add it to Fethards tally. So David Jenkins ruled the game a draw, and it went to penalties. Bunclody won the shootout and advance to the semi finals. Both sets of followers not really understanding what had happened leaving the ground, bunclody delighted to be through having lost by a point, and Fethard cursing Jenkins for not beimg able to count. Bunclody advance scoring 1 point from play in 80 minutes.

That surely merits an appeal or objection.

You’d think. But it’ll be swept away.

That’s the only way a match can be replayed if the referee got the score wrong.

So if you can prove it then it will be replayed.

Like most appeals, if you have evidence that shows a referee made a mistake then the referee can change his report.

Otherwise, gtfo.

A replay is surely warranted. Fitting it into the schedule with Leinster looming in November is the issue. Midweek perhaps.

I doubt it will happen. All the rush rush nature of it and Fethard in the football semi final too, so no spare weekends. Plus why it needs to be replayed, when the ref got the final score wrong. A complete fuck up. Nevermind the refereeing performance during the game, this bate all.
