Wexford v Galway July 2nd

It was a bit of a surreal sequence, the initial clash when both hurls splintered, Burke raising the ball with his half stick and the Wexford lad trying to block him with his half stick. Iā€™d give the Wexford lad the benefit of the doubt, even though it was extremely dangerous and could have had a horrible outcome.

What did you tell them in Indonesia mate?

I think he meant to do it at the time, but it was with a hot head.

I thought Murphy was sitting too deep to have any effect, especially in the second half. He was never going to be able to contest the high ball with Cooney but he might have made the space in front of him look a bit smaller if he was out in front. Cooney was coming out and winning the ball at his leisure most of the time. Wexford would have needed a few more defenders with physical presence in any case, Whelan is the smallest of the sextet but he was fending his man off with ease for nearly every ball that came in. Who do ye like in the draw now?

Assume they canā€™t meet KK?

He broke down the world of ball for the Cooneyā€™s. Had a great game even though he didnā€™t score.

No they canā€™t. But can meet anyone of the teams left regardless if whi comes through

I think they could beat KK again. Would have a good game against the rest bar Tipp maybe be worst draw for them after league semi

Theyd be better of if Cork won the Munster Final.and Kilkenny were beaten next round. At least then theyā€™d have a 50/50 chance of avoiding Tipp

No tough shit today, best team by a distance won the game.

We have our problems but need to stick with the process I think. Weā€™ve an obvious lack of heft in the back 6 and I donā€™t see any ready made solutions for that. for the quarter final. All things being equal we will have a far stronger squad next year with Shore, McGovern, Foley (P.), Oā€™Connor, Reck etc. coming back in to the fold. Shore and Foley are defensive options at least.

What does irk me is the free taking. Conor McDonald is a fine player but he isnā€™t even Goreyā€™s free taker. Jack Guiney is an outstanding free taker and Iā€™ve no idea why he isnā€™t taking them. Canning did jack shit in the first half but he nailed all of the frees and that kept Galway ticking over when they werenā€™t going well.

As for the penalty. Why the fuck didnā€™t our appointed penalty taker hit it? @LetterkennyMan intimated that Fanning started to go forward but had to go back? @Bandage did this happen?

The occasion did seem to get us a little bit with some uncharacteristic mistakes. There is nothing quite like Croke Park on a big day regardless of where youā€™ve played before so I guess today sorts that out.

As long as we avoid Limerick in the quarter finals Iā€™ll be happy enough. Oh waitā€¦

On the evidence thus far, although they canā€™t meet in a quarter-final, I would fancy Wexford to beat Kilkenny if they were to renew acquaintances in a semi.

Are you messing?
