how much now. So it’s ok to profit a little bit.
OK mate, you’re really grasping at straws now, you’ve been swinging like a madman all morning, perhaps you need a break? This is one of your worst performances ever.
She has sold 20000 books, how much would that be ? You still can’t answer the question.
She can’t be much of a writer, Ross O’Carroll Kelly would sell as much as that
You’re obsessed with the money, do you know for a fact that it’s not being used to fund Greta’s lifestyle or given to charity?
I don’t consider it exploitation, it’s more likely that if they curbed her passion it would cause untold damage to her, why do you need to blame somebody for helping to create the worlds most impressive and influential teenager, it’s quite bizarre
The average global temperature on earth has increased by 0.8 celsius since 1880 according to NASA. Do you agree with @Fitzy we’re now going to see a 5c increase in his lifetime, what’s that, another 40 years? A tad over dramatic, no?
Genuinely interested in your thoughts here.
I don’t know about what @Fitzy said,
1 degree Celsius is a much larger figure than it would appear on reading in this context, and I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of that increase has been in more recent years
Have you an opinion yourself, I’m not a head in the sand type of guy
Don’t set him off flailing around again FFS. He’s very emotional.
Do you honestly think lobbying the UN is going to achieve anything? The reality of the matter is that no developed or developing country is taking greenhouse emissions seriously, literally every single country that signed up for the Paris accord are exceeding their targets, the only regions that are making serious attempts to diversify into clean energy are the EU and US.
Do you honestly think China gives a fuck what the UN thinks or anyone thinks for that matter? China currently produces almost 30% of global emissions, compared to 14% for the US and 10% for the EU, India is catching up fast at 7%. They are ramping up energy production across China and Africa and lying about it, they don’t give a fuck.
It is literally a hopeless situation, not as bad as you stated, but a 2 degree increase in the next half century is not out of the question. The only short term hope is a complete ban on new fossil fuel based power stations which is difficult to achieve when the top producer has said they may slow down in 2050.
The rate of increase was about 1 degree a century up to 1975, and is now running at almost twice that and accelerating.
It will take a set of serious calamities and a losd of life in the western world before any action is taken. The western world is too full if greed and too self centred to give two fucks about anything other than their own interests.
The fact that nobody in power cares doesn’t mean that we need to lie down and take it, fair play to Greta and her supporters, at least they’re trying
What we need is more attention seeking right-wing contrarian fuckwits on Twitter trying to vilify the entire concept of environmentalism because Greta Thunberg and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have travelled in fossil fuelled cars and used fossil fuelled planes
Who is greta and what is her message.?
We should do a public poll on what people think the average world temperature increase by the year 2100 will be
I can’t see how the collective expert wisdom of this forum would get such a matter wrong
The poster who ends up being furthest out has to resign from the forum
I’ll guess 3.6 degrees celsius
Incorrect on both fronts. It will be too late when we get tot he “serious calamities” stage, there will be no turning back. The western world has taken the issue somewhat seriously, both the EU and US have had essentially no increase in emissions in the past decade.
If you can’t see that China, India and the rest of the developing world is the more serious problem, you need some help with basic Math. Here, let me help you, the EU/US are at 25% of global emissions and stable, the ROW is at 75% and accelerating.
Realistically the only thing that can help short term (other than nuclear fusion which is realistically 50 years off) is a massive global economic slowdown which would halt further energy plants. Take your pick, an uninhabitable planet in 50 years or hard times ahead for a decade.
The chinks and Curry eaters were living in mud huts up to 20 years ago…the damage was as good as done then. of course they’ve added to it… But why have they moved into the 21st century? To produce goods for the west… They do our bidding and then we hide behind low emissions and point at them as the wrong doers.
The Green industrial complex could provide untold wealth (and heath) for the planet if we had serious buy in on an international scale
When you think of how countries organised during wartime to produce things that threaten the existence of humanity such as nuclear weapons, it beggars belief that there is so little urgency to harness green technologies for the benefit of all of us
There are 7.7 billion people on the planet. There are what, 850 million people living in the EU and the US. So 11% of the worlds population produces 25% of its emissions and you want to give them a pat on the back?
I’m not giving anyone a pat on the back, just pointing out the enormity of the problem, and the naivety of those who think there are simple fixes.
No you actually pointing the finger at China, India and the rest of the developing world when in fact the developed world is still clearly the greatest offender.
