Whats Dunphys podcast called gents?
The Stand
It’s very good.
Has he finally found his niche?
He’s had a few niches. It’s a handy listen.
The Tennessee Titans featured on that Netflix doc about Vegans. Half the team were Vegans and citing how it improved their energy levels. I’m surprised there hasn’t been more made of it this season with their run to the Divisional game.
Just gave that a listen. Gibbons was windmilling all over the place. Dunphy dragged him into fairly deep waters and let him drown under his own inepitude. It was brilliant listening. Carbon tax this, losing votes that. It follows the roadmap of previous conversations like the one Andrew Marr had with one of the extinction rebellion people. They talk hysterically about Armageddon like scenarios and the science behind polar vortices but when asked about solutions all you see is a blank face.
solutions
Plant more trees
Ban non electric cars
Tax airlines more
ban beef farming
ban plastics
tax tech companies through the roof and carbon offset
SEGREGATED cycling lanes
Ban Coal
Invest in renewables
Nuclear power
And you’ll vote for anyone who’s policy for government includes all of these right? You won’t go whinging and moaning about how much your wages are down every month to cover the cost of all this right? Or you won’t go snivelling if your job goes to outer Mongolia because the tech company that’s now taxed through the roof to fund the massive investment required in renewable technology isn’t staying around to satisfy the notions of you and your like, will ya?
Sinn Féin and the Social Democrats have better and more extensive green policies than the Oirish Green Party.
We should start with planting trees. It’s easy, it works and there’s a load of other benefits.
Do we have any idea how many trees we’d need to plant to meet our targets for CO2 reductions?
Also the Green Party are against Nuclear Power mate. Just one of their many nonsensical policies.
The conversation was more on a global level where you have world leaders who are climate change deniers but in this country I would agree with some items on your list particularly the first point. We are the least forested countries in Europe and that has to change. The only other country comparable to us is the Netherlands which about the size of Munster and have had to reclaim land from the sea. I assume there is a policy on planting more trees in the green party manifesto.
Outright bans on beef farming and non electric cars are simply not practical or realistic.
I think you all mean ‘they’
We are 11% forested. The plan should be to bring that to 20% over the next 10 years. 1 tree can absorb 50lbs of Co2 per year. As well as all other benefits like helping against flooding, erosion, wildlife conservation etc.
Anywhere there are “sheep farms” i.e. sheep fucked out a hill and left to fend for themselves should be forested. The Dingle Peninsula, West Cork, Wicklow Mountains spring to mind. The farmers are making fuck all anyway, pay them the same few bob to do even less, than the nothing they are already doing, and everyone wins. No fucking pine trees though. They can fuck right off.
Ireland is insignificant on global scales…
we’re tiny… Ireland would fit in 100’s of times in to the Amazon, in fact, people should start focusing on deforestation of actual important forests rather than planting a few trees
