Irish Examiner: Mobile service providers warn of potentially massive service disruption.

Eir has told ComReg there is a “massive risk of a serious degradation in customer experience to the entire Eir customer base

I don’t know how eir could make the customer experience any worse

I’m looking for a new mobile phone - something with very good memory, good enough camera, and something sturdy/hardy that I can put in a solid case as i’m always dropping phones or someone in the house will so don’t want to pay a fortune for something that breaks next month. Any suggestions chaps? I’ve never had an iphone, my most recent phones were various models of the oneplus.

I got the OnePlus Nord 2 the other week and can’t fault it. Very solid cover attached

I’ve been dropping the OnePlus 7T Pro on a regular basis for about three years without any damage. No harm in staying with the same manufacturer if your current phone hasn’t let you down.

Did you buy that in a shop or online? Where would someone even buy a phone now in a shop? Carphone warehouse or somewhere like that?

Have you a strong case with that? The oneplus i’m using (oneplus 5T) has no case seemingly worth a fuck, just a basic back protector.

Online. I’m due some bit of a refund once the old phone goes back

I just have a plastic transparent case that came with it that covers the back. The screen hasn’t a mark on it after many falls. No idea what variation there is between screens in the various specs.

I’ve been advised by someone I work with to buy an iphone 12, I’ve always been android but what of it. A lot of ye were complimentary of swappie so I had a look there first. It’s €529 but that’s without the add on’s, for example you’ve to pay €50 more to get the phone in black (the other colours €20-30). I can get it though in dark blue/navy + in ‘excellent condition’ instead of ‘very good’ for €589 so that seems better. Now what’s bothering me is Curry’s are selling brand new iphone 12’s for €779 all-in (black screen).

So at Swappie for a refurb iphone 12 - €589 in excellent condition (dark blue cover)
At Currys - €779 for a brand new phone (black cover)

Would you be bothered your arse going second hand for €190 in the difference? I was hoping they’d be more like half the price of a new phone.

You’d get a savage brand new android for way less than that tbf.

I have a run of the mill huwaei p30 that I bought off amazon sim free two and a half years ago that works as well as day I bought it. Cost 190 quid. My wife iphone has deteriorated in performance slin same period, battery life reducing and performance a lot slower. Older model I phone alright.

Anyone with the iphone 13? It’s only €50 more than the 12 in Currys. I was told the 12 is good but not much more for the upgrade.

Spending close to a grand on a phone seems a lot to me. The current OnePlus job I have was 250 I think, which was a lot more than anything I ever paid previously. Mad to think that you’d get a Mac Mini for the same price as an iPhone now.

How much to buy directly off apple?

50 quid dearer than Currys.

I have the 13. I had the Xs before so it was a decent upgrade.

Couldn’t fault it tbh.

Assume you’re with Gomo or similar if your going down the Curry’s route?
