I got, or was given, I forget, one of those new at the time erasable Papermate pens. It seemed to work fine, but of course as usual the first day of the exams was a screaming hot day. I was flying through the first English paper when having a read-over I realised that all the pages had stuck together and un-sticking them caused the ink to transfer from one page to the other. It was a complete mess.

I frantically tried to fix it with another pen but it was an unrepairable shambles.
I wrote a note to the examiner but was lucky to scrape a D…
