Emily Bishop’s husband getting killed during a wages heist at the factory was the most dramatic thing I remember, or Rene Roberts getting killed in a car crash. Ray Langton and Len Fairclough having affairs, Ken Barlow and Wendy Crozier and Deidre and Mike Baldwin. Wasn’t contrived, quite the opposite I would say.
