When was the last time you did drugs or had a packet of tayto with a pint

This is some story.

I’ve heard a few shocking stories of late of gangsters calling around to (relatively elderly parents) looking for drug money for their kids.

Next thing they’ll be calling around to any old house where there may be no drug use, claiming they are owed 10-20k in unpaid debts and in most cases the parents will pay up without much resistance.

It’s already happening in a sense. If the parents find the money, they’re known to take a hand and add on ā€˜interest’. Drug debt intimidation is rampant.

I’ve heard a few stories.
They usually round it up to an even five or 10K, scaring the shit out of the child with a gun.
Keeping well away is the secret but kids have no sense.

The saddest part of parents or grandparents paying drug debts, is after clearing it, many addicts continue to rack up new debt again. There’s reports of families selling their homes and emigrating over it.

I know a fella who would have retired on a very good pension. The son got in bother and the father was basically cleaned out from trying to help him and pay off debts. Was a broken man when he died.

I heard of an auld lad caught for 40k because of a son.

I couldnt believe the son was even on drugs to be honest.

And this is why the pining for legalisation is nonsensical.

Treatment can be effective but there is still a high percentage of relapse. More people taking drugs means more addiction and you won’t rid the illegality element of it. The legalised opioid abuse in the U.S. shows this.

The ā€œWar on drugs failedā€ lacks serious nuance. It’s a never ending war because people like what drugs offer them. Trying to restrict their use by being heavy handed is just the price society has to pay.

Would you call their bluff?

Shoot him lads, i don’t have 10k to give ye.

Shoot him and they dont get any money…

I know a lad that moved a lot of brown to pay off a debt. Was caught, did 2 years but kept quiet and was let off. Got clean inside… unfortunately jail or a sober house is probably a better place for lads that are that far gone.

ā€œLacks nuanceā€ in the context of the test of this post, the irony :joy:

Shock horror!!

Drug dealers act the cunt.

The little bollox or bolloxeen who racked up the debt should be called out.

Those lads usually get handed a piece of steel to pay off a debt, hence the amount of wayward shooting down the years. There’ll be one or two that will be used to make an example and to instill fear of what happens to lads who don’t pay. Some get marked with a Stanley blade, and get given more time. Lads forced to do robberies etc.
Saddest trend I see in the recovery community is stunning women ending up with dealers in relationships because they buy them handbags, clothes, holidays for their insta profiles etc, free access to as much powder as they can take, then usually realise they’re in hostage situation with an unstable maniac, leave him or they dump her for the next willing bit of tail, then they’re stuck with a habit that they have to start paying for and realise that it’s a completely different set of circumstances

It must be absolutely soul destroying to see your kid in the gutter like that.

I still think I’d tell the dealers to shoot away
