Supposed to go there this month but pushed out to next month now
It takes an hour to get ready to go to town with two kids. I’ll hold off going abroad for another 5 years.
That bus goes around the houses alright…
Lads any ideas for a couple of nice days in Northern Italy in May? Flying into bergamo, we have 2 night unbooked before camping. Mrs J would like to do 2 nights somewhere else before the camping. Will have 2 kids in tow 7 & 10. Ta in advance.
Verona is absolutely beautiful pal. A short skip from Bergamo too.
If it’s any consolation, Ireland is the worst country to pack for. Weather could be anything. Try packing for a family of four for two weeks in Ireland and get back to me.
Bergamo itself is lovely. Verona is lovely also.
Lake Garda is lovely to swim in.
You driving? You can train it most places and trains are cheap … Venice is about 3hrs from Bergamo and would be a great experience for the kids but might be a bit much time taken up travelling. Verona was nice but I can’t recall much there for kids… we got rained off there tho.
It’s not actually as bad as you’d think, we went to Spain with them at 6, 3 and 6 months. A couple of tips:
- bring something to keep them entertained on the plane, colouring books, iPads, small toys etc
- avoid hotels, do a campsite where they have plenty of the space. You can stick the youngest on a blanket or in a paddling pool
- we always preferred self catering but most of these places offer half or full board if you couldn’t be bothered cooking
I don’t think I could hack air travel with the youngsters
@Juhniallio whatever towns you go to you have to seek out the local Sicilian Cannoli shop… It has to be Sicilian owned, not a cheap knock-off. There’s one in Peschiera del Garda and a lovely one in Verona… The kids will enjoy them also… They’re UNRALE.
I presume you’ll be hitting Gardaland a few times. There’s a free bus, but queues for rides can be very long… but we went mid-summer.
We tended to take the car with the roof box and ferry when the kids were small, great options in Britain or France,
We had our best holidays in the South of England
One of the best cities I’ve ever visited. Couldn’t recommend it enough
I’m due to fly next week. Are masks still required on planes?
Yeah. In the airport in general too
Yeah it’s a beautiful place and the crowds aren’t too bad either compared to some of the other Italian spots. Thinking about it again though it might be a little too subtle for @Juhniallio as he’s more of a McDonald’s and Omniplex type guy. He’ll probably be giving me shit because the apartment he stayed in didn’t have a view of a Eurospar.
We’ve done it a few times. It’s not bad at all and campsites/self catering is the way to go.
